If you do USS where you shoot down npcs with bounties, do you also get standings with that faction, example empire, or do you only get standings by doing missions available at the stations?

Ok, so you do not have to do only missions, doing USS with shooting down NPCs counts too. Thanks !
If you can check one thing I'd appreciate because I came across a very strange behaviour ( which made sense to me though ).
The bigger faction is higher than 60%, 62% to be exact. Second one had 19% and the other 2 shared the rest.
At Extraction Points the Internal Sec was fighting everyone from the 2nd power faction. Went to another one and the same was happening but the cops were fighting one of the other factions.
Eventually these last days the top influence came back down to 59% and everything seems calm.
There were no Conflict Zones open, simply the combat in the populated areas.
