Where would be a good place to mine astroids for raw materials? Can you get most common raw materials anywhere?

The only two weapons that make sense to bring (though for very limited use cases) are railguns with a mod to drain fuel and mining lasers.

I have never equipped any weapon for exploration in the last 4 years. My only concern has been maxing out my jump range and every tenth of a light year helps when exploring the fringes of the galaxy.

Yes, my AspX has got at least a pair of small lasers and shields for emergency. But small and light ones that don't decrease my range that much. And I can use them to study NSPs and their reaction on being attacked

Absolutely. Hurts my jump range. But mandatory insurance policy for whenever my Asp is returning to the bubble with millions of credits in exploration data. Then encounters that one ganker NPC criminal degenerate who is hell bent on ganking my ship for the lulz :D

Frankly, I'm surprised that the thread has lasted this long after it was necrod. Way back then, we didn't know where the Thargoids might be (turns out they are confined to a tiny area) nor what weapons we could use against them. Turns out we need specialized ones. Now, regular weapons actually have some niche usage, and thanks to even more powerful Engineering than back earlier, you can carry lightweight weapons that barely decrease your jump range.
So, to be honest, polling this is a bit pointless now. I'll ask the moderators to close this.
