Do you even Power Play?

I maintained rank 5 for the three weeks that I was in it. The first week was brutal (1000 kills) and the second and third was still pretty tough as there were no expansions going on and I had to undermine which seemed harder. It was nice to get double the bounty in controlled systems, but I was so busy grinding to maintain the rank that there was little time for that. The $50,000,000 bonus a week was decent and after the initial startup merits, the merits required for maintaining the rank (534) ended up being $93,632 per kill.

I didn't feel that I could make the 534 kills a week in the crime sweeps or undermining at security sweeps to maintain the rank after 2.1 with my average skills as I was having a tough enough time prior... add the interdictions at every turn... I left PP and I don't think that I'll be doing it in the future.

Nope. I will not pledge to any Power as I am a trader when I'm not exploring. I want to trade with everyone.

I've been doing power play for quite a while now. I first pledged to Li Yong Rui as he seemed like the person I could most identify with. After quite a while I read about these fancy prismatic shields that Princess Aisilng had on offer so decided to defect to her. I also love the look of the Imperial ships so it would be much easier to rank up and buy one of those if I based myself in one of her systems (is it just me or are the federal ships ugly?). If you're smart about where you base yourself you can trade prep vouchers from the control system and make good trading money on the way back. When I've finished playing I make sure I'm in the control system, so I can just collect vouchers when I don't have the time to play. I've got to rating 4 so far (and maintained it) and the $5m a week is a nice bonus. To get up to a rating 5 I'll have to spend time playing in the holidays and get back into undermining. I'll give it another go when I have cash for a better attack ship (ie. a vulture). I've been told that anarchy systems are my best bet for undermining now that security are quick to turn up.

I did PP when it first hit, didn't like/understand it, so took a break from ED and PP for a while. Came back March this year and got to Rank 5... it was fun. Grindy, but fun flying with wings taking on Winters. Since 2.1... holy poop monsters... those NPCs with modded weapons... I got hit by 2 eagles and an asp in my somewhat armed trader python... pew pew pew (shields gone) pang pang pang (70% hull) Me:    ?!? PANG PANG PANG (40% hull) Me: Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!! Run run run run run run run... I'm a rabbit... run run run run jump... pant pant pant... interdicted AGAIN! nnnoooooooooo!!!!!

After I drop my bounty on Tod, I am going to undeclare.

I unpledged because you get PP NPCs everywhere now, even hanging around suicidally attacking you outside stations. I wasn't invested in it (flag of convenience,) but it makes RES work much harder, as you'll get a wanted tag for returning fire (and they're waiting for you in RESes now too.)

Same reason i quit PP.

really makes you shake your head a bit to see how much dev time was spent on PP, only for it to be mostly abandoned by devs and players alike.

I think PP was a great concept, poorly executed.

Why didn't they just integrate it into normal game play? Any actions gaining reputation with minor factions allied to the controlling power should count towards PP standings. Aligning yourself with a power could have unlocked special PP missions with much higher effect on PP standing and your PP rank. Would have provided more variety and felt a lot less grindy.

found it pretty baffling, boring and unproductive. stopped after about two weeks and recently cancelled the sirius guy to reduce the possibility of interdictions. would be happy to do some more if i could see the point

Powerplay never really interested me. I thought it was a ham-fisted attempt to add some conflict to the game, but it didn't really work as it was basically a turn based board game tagged onto the main game. I tried it, but it was basically more of the same fly to station, drop off stuff, fly to another station, pick up stuff and repeat gameplay. So I lost interest very quickly.

Powerplay should have been tied into the missions board. So that you could pick up specific Powerplay missions and complete them for your chosen faction. Completing missions could have helped you rank up within your faction and also could have presented you with new modules for your ship for a job well done. But, sadly, it didn't turn out that way.

I play it indirectly by making use of the different rules/modifiers different powers apply to the systems they are in control over.

I haven't pledged though. The player activities needs to be more interesting for that to happen. As others have said, it should be better integrated with the rest of the BGS/missions and rep. I do understand the complexity of making something like that work in a fair way when powers clashing. Counting number of ships destroyed and number of vouchers turned in is one thing. Balancing out different missions and other activities fairly is a whole other ball game.
