Do you float or do you Park?

If I am on a journey I head for the next destination then float. So to continue I quickly go into the G-Map then out again and continue.
If I am doing BH in a Res I will restock then park in the ring above it.
If I am on a moon I will park where I leave off in the SRV.
There were problem in the early days parking near objects but I've not had any of those problems for a long time.

I mostly float, however when in the neighbourhood of a nice nebula or other POI I might land and check out the scenery with the SRV. In the latter case I always return in the ship to overnight.

A bit off topic but all these answers make me wonder... Is there a risk to crash into something if you float for the night, let's say quite close to a planet or a star ? Did it ever happen to someone ?

There were stories of people logging on to the rebuy screen when they logged out in an asteroid belt or Res ring, in the early days. Nowadays I will log out just above the ring but in the zone. When Bounty Hunting. I've not had any problems but YMMV.

Since I never have an SRV with me when I explore, I always "float". There just isn't room for an SRV in my Asp with all the other stuff I "need", and besides, there's no way I'll risk crashing and dying on some barren rock with millions of credits in data on board. Let me land on ELWs, and I'll bring an SRV with me.

Some people like to roleplay the shutting-systems-down thing before they log off. I couldn't be bothered. I just imagine the bedside reading light in my cabin doubles-up as a "shutdown all non-critical systems" button.

I do always make sure I'm far enough away from any moon, star or planet that might sweep me up in its orbit, before I log off. Materializing inside a planet, that has moved to occupy the same space I was in when I logged off, doesn't sound healthy.

Everything is floating in space. I just power down and tuck in whereever I am. My ship is my home, and I'm parked inside it in bed.

Although I try not to log out in an SRV, that's risky for out of game reasons...
