Do you know what would be 'Epic'?!?

I remember the 'Everquest Epic Quests'. They were REDICULOUSLY LONG and vague and all this go here there and every where.. But the rewards along the way, were, well, Epic! You had to search, hunt, discover, and most of all, you couldn't do it alone. You made friends along your journey, and if you screwed up once, you'd have to start all over. But when you made it. It was sooOOooOoo worth it.

So, I keep thinking about the 'hints' I'm hearing from the Design Posts about Elite: Dangerous...

I'm really excited about the fact you can 'earn your ship'. I don't know why, but I just find it very appealing that certain ships need alignment, possibly faction, and lots of missions, plus you /EARN/ them. Not buy them with Credits or Grinding, but you have an experience in the game, that leads you to a reward that is unique to you. And maybe you can earn components and upgrades as well! I'm sure you'll need to make friends and enemies alike along the way, and if you fail, so what! You can try again. But that's what's really 'Epic' to me.

So what do you know that would be 'Epic' in Elite: Dangerous? And have you found the beginnings of it yet?

Please, do tell Commanders!

Not sure if this belongs here, but it would be pretty epic when you're an explorer and scan a system for the first time. The system map would actually say something like "Planet XYZ discovered and scanned for the first time by
Cmdr. XYZ on YYYY-MM-DD"
That would be real EPIC and a great reward for explorers too!

I was always hoping that the first Commander who sold that system data to the 'Cartographers', would get a percentage of the sale from every Commander who bought that Map going forward (because you put it in there).

But they've also said, you get faction for which Allegiance you shared it with, and they wouldn't take kindly if you shared it elsewhere.

Pretty cool if you were the only Commander to discover that station, then become wanted for not sharing the knowledge. :)
