Do you need a specific combat rank for Imperial rank 'Baron'?

Greetings fellow Commanders,

sworn to the Empire, i want to travel in style. Therefore, I'm trying to purchase a Clipper.

I'm currently Lord of the Empire, trying to earn the title of Baron.

I have done a lot of missions already, and I'm starting to wonder should I have to get to a higher combat rank first? Currently at Master, with 23% towards Dangerous.

No I made Baron at Expert. Just keep doing missions and it'll come eventually.

No, I had Baron before I was even Expert. Completely independent from each other.

Combat rank is unimportant. Keep working on minor factions rep that are Empire orientated. Sooner or later the mission will pop up. I am master combat rank & have achieved Baron status.

The missions are bugged currently. You can only rank up with delivery ones.

Also thanks for all the other answers, I'll keep killing pirates for empire minor factions then, and wait for a delivery ascension mission.

Are you doing all this in the same system? That could be the problem. Once you're allied with the small factions in the system, you can't get your rep up anymore. You will have to go to a different system in order to start increasing your rep there. That should get you the missions. In the meantime, grab a courier. it's the best ship I've ever flown, and cheap to A rate.

Combat rank seems to make no difference as I'm 'Count' and only have combat novice rank.

I don't think promotion missions are as broken as some make out as I've regularly had them for both factions, but I do move about between areas a lot to spread out the reputation, probably explains why I'm not allied or even friendly with any major factions.
