Newcomer / Intro Do you need special equipment to trade slaves/Imperial slaves?

I had a bit of a panic last night as there was a wonderful trading opportunity involving slaves. They were expensive and I didn't want them turning into fertilizer! I was worried because I was sure I had read at some point I needed special equipment (powered cargo hold?). A quick trawl of the forums and Google turned up no concrete answers so in the end I took a gamble... and it paid off . Profit was made at the expense of <insert_life_form_here> suffering .

My question is, was I just lucky, are there special requirements or was all that stuff abandoned during development?

No special requirements. If you got the money and the stomach for it. Careful though, they are illegal in a lot of systems including Empire systems and you will incur a heavy heavy fine if caught.

The fine isn't even the worst, get caught smuggling once and you get a major faction hit for the major faction that you won't recover from for weeks or months.

OK, I'm guessing the slave trade may not be something I want to get into then...

Thanks M & DM for the advice.

Slaves are illegal pretty much everywhere.

Imperial Slaves are different - they are legal in the Empire and most Independent systems close to the Empire. They are not slaves in the traditional sense, it's a form of indentured servitude, and provides a safety net for Imperial citizens down on their luck, effectively instead of unemployment benefit. The corporations that run the Federation would just let their unfortunates starve. See the faction explanations elsewhere in this forum. Trading in Imperial Slaves is one of the more profitable commodities, as long as you find a good supply and demand trade route.

Slave trade is very lucrative if done with caution. Slave smuggling accounts for a large part of my income in space. I have taken no losses, no wanted levels, and each smuggling operation has been carefully planned and executed. For every 10 slaves smuggled in for work, I will liberate two slaves from a different system to clear my conscious.

I assume you need cages, or at least some ducttape. :)

How inhumane! They are sedated for the journey. They are only subject to brief low temperatures upon arrival to the station where they will find a new home. As you are probably aware, I must rid all signatures before entry.

Cant find slaves anywhere, and cannot search for them as you can with imperial slaves, where are they?

Hey,

I found slaves in an independent system, agricultural economy.

What I did was set the allegiance filter in the galaxy map to Indepedent only, and looked around in those systems.

Also keep in mind, that if slaves are not listed as 'exported' in the station description on the system map does not necessarily mean they are not sold at that station.

Cheers,

In the DDF it said you needed cabins to transport imperial slaves, I guess they're just regular cargo now then. A lot of the mechanics around slavery have been dropped I think but that doesn't mean they won't be implemented in a later update.

if you get wanted by one major faction there is still 2 more that will consider you clean.
pick one faction that you don't like and make sure you do all your dirty crimes in their space and nowhere else and you will be fine.
