Do you play with a headset on?

ok, coming of the back of SubSynks thread about non communication between players.....

One of the issues here is that typing into the comm system and escaping/fighting is extremely hard/risky.

So...1st a quick poll...do you play with a headset on? I usually play with a mate so we always have our headsets on....never managed voice comms with anyone else though.

2nd....if you do I have an idea......

Put your commander name down.....headset players should "friend" each other....we'll be more likely to come across each other in game. Good Idea?

I've just started using a headset with noise cancellation. I was genuinely surprised at how much more of the game audio I get now

one of these days I might try it, but I'm just not big on wearing headphones for hours at a time. Plus then I can't hear anything around me, like the door or the phone.

Between 8am and 10pm, no headset. 10pm-8am, yes - people in the house are sleeping.

Even during the day, I wear the headset around my neck to use the mic with voiceattack.

I use an Astro A40, with it's Mixer and a Creative card to get proper dolby digital (no easy feat to research I can tell you).

I tried used the voice comms with a friend in ED, it was a disappointment, after the initial fun of hearing the Apollo-era filter they applied to the voice comms; after a few minutes it became apparent we a) needed to be in the same system, b) had no warning when one of us left the system and c) it was just too hard to hear each other due to the cool filter. So, no need for a mic at the moment; until we have Skype level clarity, working comms in all situations, with a 5% coolness-filter applied, I can't see it catching on.

5.1 all the way. I have a sweet set of Senns that just gather dust...

Yeah, I use a set of GameCom 7.1 surround headphones. The sound of Eagles screaming past you with multicannons is pretty awesome.
Also makes locating your target easier when you don't have head tracking (Which I don't).

More headset users than I suspected so far, nice. I had voice attack setup for a while didn't have any problems with it interfering with my normal conversation. Had to stop using it though, my constant commands were annoying my missus.

Will def send out some friend requests if peeps leave their commander names....come the wings update it will make all the difference if you can actually get a wing together with voice comms....

I agree, I love the filter but it is easier to use skype.....BUT.....for ease of setup using the ingame system would be fine.

Heh I also have TrackIR so I have a rather "elegant" solution to use my Trackclip... This an old pic so bigger monitor and my G15 is now a G19 but the rest still stands...

Needs a 'sometimes' option.

My surround headset does improve the sound when I use it though. Even the FSD rumbling sound builds nicely, which isn't so noticeable though my speakers

If it works... yeah!

My friend is playing in Bootcamp/Windows 8.1 on a MAC!
It's not working at all for him
He can hear me... I can't hear him!

I'm playing on a genuine Windows 8.1 machine!
