Do you still get attacked by pirates if you have limpets in inventory?

I always found this system dumb, i want to get a collector limpet to pickup stuff fast for engineer materials. Do pirates still attack if limpets are in your inventory just because they seem like cargo to them?

You can still have pirates attack you without cargo.

When you drop into a ring, there will be a pirate spawn. These pirates will scan you and leave if you have nothing except limpets. But if you have any mining missions, sometimes a pirate will follow you from supercruise. These pirates may still attack even if they have scanned you and found no cargo.

Yes, the pirates that spawn in normal space (eg at beacons, RES) won't attack you if they scan you and find only limpets. But the pirates in Supercruise will still babble about you having "tasty cargo" and interdict you or, as LL said, they'll follow your wake if you drop down before they interdict you. Of course, they'll still do all that even if you have nothing at all in the hold and are only "carrying" exploration data or mission tickets, so it isn't really a "limpet problem".

My Fer-de-Lance gets interdicted, even without a cargo rack installed. They always ask for cargo anyway. I just figured it was some elaborate form of npc suicide.
