Do you think I will make it?

I will have approximately 3 hours to travel 5.4kly in a 30ly range DBXP to get to Lembava to hand in approx 900 scans...

I think it takes roughly 3 hours to do 5.4kly so I have no idea how I'm going to make it...Any tips?

I was running about 1000LY in 40 minutes in a 30LY range ASP.

Honk and scoop.

Get lining yourself up to the next hop while scooping, pull the nose of the ship UP away from the star as soon as you finish scooping to cool down more quickly and hit the jump button as soon as the temp drops below 58 - do not worry about lining up with the jump point entirely, you can do that while charging up.

Well, it's a DBX - initiate the jump while inside the corona, shortly before your tank is topped up. The ship can take it.

I'm not convinced that speed scooping actually saves time to be honest. There is always a delay when you do that - the few seconds before you can hit the FSD, and over 200 jumps it accumulates. It's better to have that delay once every six jumps rather than every jump?

That's my thinking anyway

Well, you have the cool down & the spool up time anyway (20 seconds together? 25?), so you might as well use it: It takes roughly 15 seconds to fill up the DBX tank after one max range jump at maximum scoop rate. As long as you hit scoopable stars and use its ability to jump directly, the time loss is minimal.

put speed to 75%. at that speed jump will be iniated if fsd charged. turn of powerdistributor, sensors, shields - everything you don't need for jumprace, so you have least fo heat. and than as said above: fuelscoop on the way of the upcoming jump vector, charge fsd as soon as as fuelscoope rate goes under 50%. you can definetly make it!

You will have to be lucky to make it, with decent server response.
Even if you do, will you be able to sell those scans ?

Cant hurt to try though can it

Yes, but scans sell much faster now. I can do 50 pages in about 15 minutes hopefully

There are over 4hrs left on the CG, assuming you dont have Real Life(tm) issues

Good news, I have an extra 37 minutes - let's GO

Good luck Kaii!!!

the secret to speed scooping under the FSD cooldown is to dive steeply and pull up just after halfway through the cooldown. You can start charging the FSD a second or two before the scooping is done without burning up. You can of course DScan during this whole process and be finished well before the FSD charges. When "bouncing" off a star, head straight away from the star regardless of the direction of your next jump to decrease the charge time and reorient you ship once the bars are halfway charged. The whole thing takes about 20 seconds plus ~26 for the witch space animation for total of roughly 45s per jump.

Econ honking is better money, but the above is how I travel 1KLY in under 30 min in an Asp.

With a DBX, you can start charging earlier during the scoop, but you need to scoop longer than the FSD cooldown timer. The best time to start it varies by star corona size and temp, but roughly a few seconds after the cooldown expires and with just enough time to escape the corona before you're done refueling. It'll be about 5-10 seconds slower than Asp on average, unless you hit an unscoopable. You might just make it, if you are very lucky!

I was doing about 50s per jump on the way in, so that would be 150 mins, giving you 30 mins to sell.

What I do is

  1. try to make sure you aren't going through dwarf belts
  2. Set throttle to 50% on countdown
  3. as soon as you exit hyperspace angle to the stars gravity well, then start circling the star to line up your next jump (so you are going just up or down)
  4. if you are feeling brave increase speed to 100%
  5. as soon as you've finished scooping hit jump, then change direction so you are directly away from the primary star,
  6. once you start to cool down align on destination - jumping on 98% heat does no damage.

Here's to hoping that you made it. o7

Made it!

Sold all my data with 10 minutes to spare. Seriously, of that 3.5 hours, I made it with a 5% window. Really though, it was much more than 3.5 hours. I didn't include the 2 hours this morning I put in as well. I basically started at the Crab Nebula, 6.7kly away. This morning!

Aaah, I have to say, I am really happy I made this thread, I wouldn't have made it without your advice. Yes, I worked out the perfect way to be efficient, the last 28 jumps I didn't even need to refuel, and I didn't waste a second on the FSD. I learned something - think I'm ready for a Buckyball run :)

Got a bit worried when I hit the inter-armular gap (yes that's what it's called) and my route was constant unscoopables, but with determination and not a single break, I made it.

Aaah, that was so fun, new way to play. A race against the clock, be as efficient as possible. For a long time, with constant heat alarms going off. I just basically flew my ship for as long as I drive my car Manchester to London.

I have that feeling like the world is still moving, my head is swimming.

Sad news is I didn't make the top 5% so that whole thing was kind of not worth all the headache - but at least I got back into the top 15%

Now let's see in 2 minutes if we break Tier 7 :)

FYI, I set out beginning of the week to get a few scans on economical to the Eskimo. I then read that I need about 1000 to get to the (then) top 5% so it because a slowly growing obsession, the more possible it seemed. Although I definitely estimated the time wrong. I was supposed to be back by 3am last night. But man, how close did I cut it.

Thanks again guys, as you can probably tell, I'm on a bit of a high.

EDIT: P.s. I recorded the last 1.5 hours. I'm going to edit it into a 10 minute video - best video ever

Can you manually disengage the fuel scoop?? Because you can't jump while the scoop is engaged.

\o/ great you made it! what a story to tell :) with that speed you should join the fuelrats after your buckyball
