Personally I don't care how long it takes to get to an Anaconda, partly because I'm a casual player doing my own thing and will probably NEVER be able to afford one and I'm cool with that. My main worry is that this will turn into WoW in space.
I used to play WoW but got wholeheartedly disillusioned with it after the second expansion came out, and it only got worse from there. Initially it was difficult getting from L1 to 70 and you actually had to play properly so you didn't die every 5 minutes, but as the expansions came the earlier levels got easier and easier so they were pointless to play and the only goal was to get to L90 as fast as possible because that's where you got to play the game. Only you didn't. All that happened was you got to grind the rep and the dungeons to get the latest/greatest gear to fight in RAIDs which you could never get in to if you were a casual player. So I left.
I'd like Elite to stay difficult from the beginning, but I'm all for making all the professions equally viable so we can all play the way that we want to play and make the progression that we feel we want to. Me I'm happy to be bumming around in my Adder, doing a little trading here and there, exploring and some BHing. Not making big bucks whilst I'm doing it, but doing the most important thing .... having fun.
