Do you think the devs really play this game?

Do the devs play their own game?

Yes they play, but they play knowing the overall plan so they can see the game in its correct context. They will also know what is a limitation of the design, whereas we will look at is a bug or missing functionality. This is FD's first MMO attempt so they are learning as they go. The small instance limit and large expanse of space means it will only ever be a hybrid type of MMO, but the communication/ranking/guild aspects that players will expect are all missing. The missing elements are the ones that heavily offset the grind elements. All MMO's have grind but because they have well defined communication/ranking and guild mechanics players accept the grind because they want to rank up and enjoy being part of a bigger team.

:)

The shoemaker goes barefoot...

Was once a part of game project.
And i played the game like half year after the actual release :)

Wanted to finish some bug catching and make some changes.
But boss wanted to release it .....and people were actually happy.
But i was not :)
I wanted it perfect, it had to be better, it had to be finished, without the bugs.

And although i knew almost every possible branching of the story i still enjoyed playing it.
It was kind of like your baby :.-)

So i bet there are those, that are working their asses off, on game they don't have time to play.

Why they don't "play" is the same reasons mechanics don't work on their own cars if they can help it, who the hell wants to do go home and have their job to look forward to.

Some of them definitely do. There have been videos with them in game.

There are a couple of youtube vids out there where people have blown up DBOBE.

EDIT: I also recall Braben saying he doesn't get to play as much as he would like to. Not surprising since he is CEO of a publically traded company. Can't get much free time with a job like that.

Can we vote this thread the most passive aggressive way to knock a dev ever? Nothing like being called "not a real gamer" to erode some confidence.

It's not like that at all. The point is that some of the game mechanics are fundamentally flawed and that's most likely because the devs don't actually play the game like a lot of players do.

In online games the gameplay changes and evolves and I don't think FD are taking that in to account.

That's the point of the thread not to say FD aren't true gamers or belittle them in anyway.

I think it's a fair question to ask.
maybe DB, MB, & S'S can post a screenshot of their "statistics panel" so we can get an understanding of what areas of the game they have experience with, and specifically what bugs they encounter on a daily basis.
People can draw their own conclusions from there.

Personally, on the matter of brokrn piracy, i would trust the opinion of some one who has spent more time trying to pirate than some one who has spent less time, dev or not.

Voted no. If they do then they don't play like the majority of people they probably dip in and out an randomly test mechanics.

If they played like players did and tested the professions we'd probably have a working economy and background simulation and they wouldn't have added in the 20t cargo limit that took a month to change. They would probably be harder on cheaters too as I doubt any of the devs have encountered people combat logging on them on a daily basis or been gunned down by a player tanking a station with the infinite shield hack.

If they played pvp then we wouldn't have had shield cells and boosters which broke the fun dog fighting from beta or high wake jumps and the lack of an interdiction cooldown which make player piracy hard and pvp bounty hunting near on impossible. If anyone thinks they're prioritizing pvp then you're sadly mistaken or you've never tried it properly.

There's a whole lot more but we all know where the failing are.

I agree.
