When I was a kid like 15-20 years ago, there was this place near my house called FunScape. They had a virtual reality roller coaster and for its time it was absolutely amazing. It wasn't a headset, it was a full enclosure boxcar that 2 people could sit in. Riders had to be strapped in as the entire enclosure could spin around. Inside in front of where you sit were 3 large screens displaying the track in front of you. It was sort of like when you go to the movies and you ride the roller coaster through bursting pop corn and drinks and stuff (not sure if all theaters have that but mine do). I don't remember if it was 3D but it felt very real as the boxcar would spin around accordingly to the track that was displayed on screen, literally flipping completely upside down and barrel rolling. The tracks could even be switched so every ride was different. Really mind blowing stuff for the time and I'm surprised I never saw more stuff like it or that it wasn't more popular.
