docking and hitting the station below the ship

while docking, sometimes I hit the station beneath me when I am near the landing pad.

it would be nice to have some sort of an indicator that shows the distance you are from the object you are about to hit, or to show it on the radar display

I am sure I hit something in the pad next to mine
