Didn't look like he was stopping to me, more going cautiously out of the gate. I won't be a hypocrite and say your fault for going too fast, I normally boost through there anyway

Nope, all your fault. If you would've gone slower you could've stopped.
Also, I think I saw the aftermath... The other player hit the side of the airlock repeatedly until he exploded. And I mean he hit it with the bow of his ship, like hitting it, bouncing back and hitting it again.
Made me chuckle.
