Docking computer user here

While I can agree with the convenience tax, it was awfully convenient to integrate the DS into the ship ;)

I won't call for it, but I wouldn't be mad if that happened to the DC either :D

Yeah, that's a point worth making. The Disco Scanner / FSS is more than a tool of convenience - it's something that is required for certain activities.

The DC is never required for anything.

I use DC most of the times beacuse:

1. It reminds me of the old days back in 85´on the C-64.
2. It lets me do other stuff IRL like pouring up a nice cup of tea or have a bathroom break or looking at EDSM, INARA.
3. It lets me do other stuff in the game like chatting with squad or people in the system or taking a glance on my credit balance.
4. It makes manual docking more fun when i actually need/want to do it.
5. It makes entering the mailslot an adventure, will the DC put me in the path of a type 10 or ram me into a player exiting in the middle lane with his Sidey
6. It makes me nurish the dream of a un-docking computer.

Other players can play how they want to............I play with a DC.

When I first played Elite in '84, as soon as I could afford one it was bought, getting though the mailslot was more tricky then than it is now.

When I started playing ED it was the first on the list to purchase & EVERY ship I buy, the DC is the first module that goes onboard.

It's not that I can't land, because I can, but a DC will land faster & it's far easier than me trying to land. Others may land quicker than a DC - fair play to them.

Do I trust it 100%, no way!
Even though I can only count around a dozen times in 4 years, when it's gone wonky on me, I NEVER go AFK when using it. I'm always watching like a hawk with my hand on the joystick, waiting just in case I need to override it.

But, like I said, each to their own

Docking is my favorite of the various multitude of mini games this game offers. Just offering a counter opinion.

I'm all for you guys getting a DC built in. Won't change the way I play.

Play the game how you want to play it. Dont listen to anyone telling you otherwise. You life, your game.

I dont use it mainly because i need all my slots.

I like using docking computers on the big ships, for me it adds to the feeling of driving a huge freighter. No sense to use them on a small nimble ship when you can dock a lot quicker yourself. I also often use one on PS4, because it is so embarrasingly clumsy to land using a controller!

Wonder how many of those claiming the DC is for lazy players and should be abolished still use collector limpets. Surely if landing is such a macho thing then so is manual scooping, is it not?

Or using the 'parallax method' to locate all the objects in any system instead of the old ADS.

Yes the odd player may still use this method....but the majority didn't
