Elite / Frontier Docking Help for Elite

Hi,

I played Elite on the Dos PC in college many years ago and I recently found the copy again and got it to work. It's still a bunch of fun.
However I am reminded that I am really bad at docking with Space Stations, which is an important part of the game (and ends the game pretty early for me. I have never gotten maybe 10 light years away from Lave, the starting point, which shows how bad I am at docking).
Is there any advice to tips someone can give me on how to dock. I can sometimes do regular stations, but with the duodecahedrons forget it.

I hesitate to ask, but is there possibly a cheat or a way to get a docking computer early on, ?

Many Thanks in advance

Chris

Try this method:

When you first sight the station, it will probably be to one side of the planet (or above, below, etcetera). Position yourself so that the planet is to the left of your laser sights and the station to the right (or vice versa). Fly on in a straight line. Keep an eye on the side views for the space station. When you are looking straight at the entrance with a side view, rotate round until you are facing it. Try to dock at full speed. You are not left guessing the angle of the entrance at the last minute by doing this. With some practice it becomes far easier than going in slowly.
