Docking is NOT hard > Video

Docking is super easy if you have a decent HOTAS setup (X52).. I can speed dock almost everytime - I reckon a lot if X52 joystick and throttles will be sold because of this game.

It's not hard in a Sidewinder but the larger ships can be a challenge at times. Not so much the actual landing but more the getting through the entrance in one piece, especially when there is a lot of traffic.

This is my experience, all too often. :(

Understandable that there may be those finding it difficult if not downright infuriating at not being allowed to dock due to bugs, network issues or Betty the docking monitor just being drunk and not being able to perform the simple task of allocating you a pad.

But the OP wasn't trying highlight that in his video. Just the apparent inability of some to shoehorn a sidewinder through the docking port and land on a pad effectively.

Please correct me OP if I'm wrong! ;)

Good video and nice landing, but I would love to have seen an anaconda or lakon crawling out as you were storming in at nearly 300 ;)

Easy with a DS4. Not sure what all the fuss is about.

I crashed once getting cocky. Straight into the door at full speed. Other than that and the station trolling you by switching your pads just as you touch down its riding a bike.

Spot on which is why i did it full engines and boosts. Honestly if you cat get a sidewinder through and onto the pad i'd give up :S

Exact same experience. Only I get 5 or 10 more pad selections to play with and still get the NPC laughter.

Yeah this happens to me too. No idea why. Something wigs out in the middle of while i'm docking (I'll be like a minute or two in) then it'll give me a loitering warning, then my request will time out.

Last time right before I was about to land, it was like
Proceed to pad 06
PAD LOITERING WARNING!!!
Docking request timed out. Please repeat request.
Docking request granted. Proceed to pad 06
*literally 10 seconds later*
PAD LOITERING VIOLATION
"wait what?"
Pad loitering violation cleared.
"huh, okay..." *few seconds later*
PAT LOITERING VIOLATION, LETHAL FORCE AUTHORIZED.
"What the FU~~..?!" BOOOM!

and the station opened fire on me, blowing me away in seconds.

Never once was I sure about why this happened.

Every other time its been super smooth, except when weird things start happening the I have to super cruise out and come back... Usually I can dock within 2-3 minutes of granting a request. Its not hard, but I can see this being exorbitantly difficult with digital controls.

Have no problems docking using keyboard. I like to slow down to 1 pip 50% when get close to the entrance just in case someone come out at the same time.

Once inside I just aim the ships nose at the correct landing platform, stop engines before crashing into the control tower and then just orient the ship correctly for landing.

I have set up my keyboard so I can use left hand for directional changes, and right hand for trusters. q-e w-s a-d and u-o i-k j-l

See? That's what make a game a real experience...

You fail,
You achieve with luck,
You achieve with care,
You routinely perform,
You master,
You push the boundaries.

It's circle of life. It's what's make a sandbox game so unique : understand and play by the rules, then play with them. It's not about player-centrism and comfort zone, it's about player earning his place by himself and not spoonfed.

I hope every aspects of Elite will follow the same trail.
