Docking large ships at outposts

Is anyone aware of plans to facilitate docking large ships at outposts. Either by adding large pads or pulling along side a docking structure, or something else.

If we can dock similar sized structures in space right now it should be possible in elite.

They could even use automatic limpets to transfer stuff if required

Outposts tend to have a good profit margin or end up as part of a 4 or 5 hop route - also extraction where profits can be made are at places with outposts
.
One of the best decisions FD have made is to NOT put large pads on outposts. If you want a large ship you have to recognise you cannot access 30% of the markets - Its a choice you have to make.
.
This would be a pretty poor game if everyone flew the same ships because they could go anywhere.
.
Having said that there was discussion about having small ships that could unload big ships (maybe it will come with fighters) but I don't see them carrying much more than a sidewinder so it will take an age to unload even 200T

I suppose there's no real reason why a large ship that can't land at an outpost would/could/should have some facility to interact with an outpost but then again it's clearly a gaming decision to give "some" disadvantage to having a big ship, and not being able to land and access the facilities is one of these downsides. There have been discussions on many an occasion about how a Capital Ship would interact with a regular coriolis or orbis type station, but supposedly it would have smaller fighters/freighters that could be launched to fit through the docking slot and deliver/buy supplies whilst it sits outside. Would be an awesome sight just to witness quite frankly if at some point this was implemented in the game universe sometime.

Going off topic there a little, but perhaps when we get the multi-crew patch and launching ships etc this could be the opportunity to then implement your wanting to access outposts in your large landing pad ship that way.

You can't land per sey... but you can fill up larger ships by having intermediary ships and a few limpets to shuttle cargo between the two.

I mean that's how we filled up multiple condas for the rares trading CGs during december with the hutton truckers.

One of the devs made a post about adding large pads to certain outposts, I'll see if I can track it down, it was a little while ago.

Gotta say, I've often looked at what looked like a Large Pad with a Ship wreck on it on some Outposts I've visited and wondered when are you guys going to clean up that mess so I can dock there? ;)

That thing doesn't seem to have a Hangar, though. But I could live with that.
Unsure if it's actually L size, though... just looks like it.

You seem confused about the size of some of the large ships in this game:

Space shuttle is 32x23m with a height of approx 14m.
By comparison a Clipper is 107x104x25m
An Anaconda is 152x62x31m
A Cutter is 193x111x33m

On the structure size the International Space Station is 109x73m
The outposts are probably about 200x200m (no info to go by so guestimates here)
The Coriolis stations have a diameter of 4000m across
The Orbis are 2000-4000m

Similar sized is a bit off :)

Back on topic this may come in to the game at some point but no news yet.

And apart from all valid and good arguments in this thread: If large ships could dock on outposts, why a Python ?
The whole idea of the ship would be moot. Having only medium pads on outposts , add thought to the game; what is viable to bring to a CG , where can i maximise profits on trade ?
Please leave as is.

Cheers Cmdr's
