Docking of larger ships

Hi Guys,

Sorry if this has been asked before. The Dev dairy #8 has got me thinking regarding larger ships docking at space ports .The scaling of the ships shown recently in respect to the smaller agile fighter / freighters is more proportional to each other now and has anyone heard how these goliaths dock at the stations as it would be extremely easy for a smaller ship to go through a large docking door if it was designed to take one of the monster eye candy that we've seen so far .

Thanks in advance

Mark

I'm guessing here but i would think that capital ships don't dock with stations, instead they act like stations themselves. any supplies needed by them would be delivered by smaller tender ships.

Yes, few Anaconda filled with goods, would be parked, for transfer. As in the picture below

Capital ships will be docked outside. In fact, players with smaller ships will have possibility to dock outside for refuel and limited amount of services (as far as I remember).

Thanks Guys .............Never thought a 42 yr old man would still be getting giddy over a game ,but this ****** is doing a fine job of bringing out the Kid in me again lol

Gee that Anaconda looks so completely different from the Anaconda I remember in ELITE... :)

Guess I need to brush up on ship recognition!

If you refer to the pic in Patrick_68000's post, that's an early(?) sketch of an Imperial Battlecruiser. And if you look closely, there's text in there that says: "Anaconda sized ships dock" :).

Looks like they are going to have to employ alot of lifters and shuttles to ferry dignitaries or valuable supples to and fro.

It would be good to see these underused crafts from previous Elites. Now they might have a functional role in maintaining background traffic around space in order to keep with the immersion factor.

Also good for keeping a steady stream of NPCs coming and going. Otherwise they are utterly useless.

Would love to see them to some capacity.

Well the Anaconda I remember looks like this:

Hmmm or maybe that's a Boa...

Yes, that's one of the things that concerns me most about this game. It's likely to be a difficult thing to implement AND make it look good. So much so that is bound to lead to some disappointment as our expectations are set so high to begin with. I'm sure we all want to see Infinity-type graphical wonders. But as Josh Parnell (Limit Theory) has shown, even a one man team can do it, if they are skilled enough.

Anyone who has seen the new Cobra mkIII peek in the pbf will know the scale of these ships is massive. It will be really interesting to see how vast the space stations are going to be to take these ships.

If Frontier made a commitment to make it, then we can have an easy mind. It will be fantastic

;)

There was a video where DB showed the Anacondas in ED (kickstarter video?). I was very impressed with how it looked on that video, and bearing in mind that video was made MONTHS ago, it's looking very good that whatever they do with the ships we all knew and loved would look great :)

EDIT - found the video :)
