Newcomer / Intro "Docking request denied"

This is not a big problem but it has happened a few times and I was curious.

I'm in solo and well within the required distance so I don't know why I would experience this. Waiting a few minutes always clears the denial and it only seems to occur at platforms.

What's the inside skinny on this?

Cheers!

I think outposts only have one medium pad. So likely an NPC in an Asp sleeping on the pad.

Most probably this. Watch to see if an NPC takes off from the pad, afterwards you can send a successful docking request (usually while the platform is still the other way round, if you're quick you can see that the landing support animation on your HUD points the wrong way until it suddenly starts to rotate).

Happens all the time at outposts for me. Most often if my canopy popped in battle
Outposts have only a few pads. Wait for a ship to depart. Or do like I do...hit dock request over and over like a zillion times until it says granted.

All these NPCs cluttering up the place, you should complain to FDev that Solo should really mean Solo, no other commanders of any sort not just no other players.

Happened to me at Hutton Orbital of all places. 1.5 hours of supercruise and then they wouldn't let me dock (I'd been there before and knew about the "for the mug" beacon nearby, but scanning that didn't help).

Some frantic googling revealed that this was an intermittent bug that could be cleared by engaging and disengaging silent running. Tried that, and it worked.

However, it has happened since at another outpost, and SR didn't clear it (though it cleared eventually). So now I don't know what to believe.

When it happens, check your contacts. You should see a medium-sized NPC ship. Select it, and you should find it sitting there on Pad 3 (or, perhaps, lining up for landing or taking off). Wait until it takes off and the pad number clears, then request docking again.
