Docking Request Granted Sound

I'm not sure if this has been suggested before, but it would be nice to hear the station announcer or some other voice confirm or deny your landing request. It would help make the station project itself outside of the interior. Thoughts?

I think he means someone on the station, not your computer

Yes that's right, that's what I'm talking about. It has a lot of scope as well;

* Announcers welcoming you or denying you to the station if you're friendly or not (there is text speech for this).
* Announcers welcoming you by rank.
* Announcers offering news/advertising suggestions.
* Announcers hailing ships around the station making pilots aware of dangers.

I think this would be cool and could make the stations seem more alive. ^_^

Anyone played Tachyon: The Fringe? That had something like this in it and after one of the patches the NPC ships could be heard over the comms also asking to dock.

I would back this Idea. It's is not a big change, but could make things seem more realistic. Espacially if you get some Information out of the Situations around the Area. For Instance about Civil wars, safty, piracy or anything else. IT would improve the sim.

This would be cool, but at the same time I can see why it is the way it is, because just as computers take over the job of humans all the time, so it is with the station, its all automated so if a slot is available the station computer simply relays the message back to the computer onboard your ship and thus its your ships voice that tells you.

I suppose you could do a bit of both? Some stations its just the confirmation relay, other stations you actually get to hear a person confirm it.

You could just get a half dozen different voices and maybe do some voice modulation to change them up a bit for more variation?

No doubt when we're walking in stations more voice work is going to be required anyway.

Yeah I can see that as well, where the voice becomes repetitive and you end up turning it off. Some variation would definitely be needed. However, all the content is there now to implement this (bar the different voices). The game knows your status, rank, high profile bounties, ships under fire in your vicinity etc. As you say though, maybe introduce it to outposts where there are less pads or the comms tech on the station isn't new enough.

All great suggestions guys. Hopefully someone from Frontier is reading this....

Personally, I'd like to hear the controller talking me into the landing spot. I can hear his panicked shouts into the comm:
"Hot shot, you're coming in too fast. Slow down. You're going to overshoot the pad."
<pause>
"Wave off! Wave off! You're coming in too..."
<pilot hits the back wall>

I wonder if on some outposts, the ones really far out there, if they'd unmanned any? It would be like them little houses you get up mountains for climbers to shelter in, they're kept tidy by the climbers before them. If that was the case then the outpost's computer would have to assign a pad. :eek:

I do think a mix of voiced and unvoiced would be good. ^_^
