While giving a hand to a new player I thought I'd run through the built-in docking training mission and I was disgusted to find it was basically useless for that purpose. It is a complete "carry some stuff from this Coriolis station and deliver it to a Coriolis station in a neighbouring system" mission walk-through. This current mission is not going to encourage new players to re-do it in order to learn how to successfully dock on a landing pad.
I suggest F D provide a stand-alone docking training mission. So as to allow new players to learn how to actually land on a pad, just make it a simple "OK, there is an orbital platform, go dock" - that way they can rinse and repeat until the skills are learned. Such a mission would also introduce them to the locations of landing pads on orbital outposts, a random outpost-type and random pad allocation would make this even more useful.
Newcomers find landing on orbital platforms confusing, I think F D could help overcome this by adopting my suggestion.
