I agree about the need for much much bigger open stations, not that Coriolis stations are small compared to your average family car, but there must be stations where the Federation/Imperial fleet dock so that they can be repaired/refitted at times of war - not one after the other. It's this (I completely understand that it may be in the works and the game is already awesome anyway) that will really help to add scale and an additional sense of awe.
On top of that knowing how fanatically some players trade, there would have to be similar corporations that trade at a massively bigger scale - though with the effect of totally nerfing our markets - but the massive corporate presences would presumably also not only be building their flagship, er, flagships but also massive corporate stations capable of taking care of their huge fleets and storage/distribution hubs the same way logistics firms and wholesalers have them for their lorry fleets dotted around the country. Yes, we would all hate them becuase they would make it difficult to compete with trading, mining (welcome to it) or exploring, but then that would allow for more economic terrorism on the part of players - Intergallactic Greggs? I want in on your sticky bun market!
Space is really really big, so we should build on a much bigger scale in it - it's not like planning permission is going to be a massive problem. (And yes I know there could be problems with too much traffic in low orbit but that would be alieviated by....huge stations!) As Mr Lionard says above, there should be lots of traffic with hazardous billboards, but also a high level of security to chase you off if you're not supposed to be there.
I love sci-fi and the associated big dumb objects, but I want them bigger
and possibly even dumber
