Dodging The Pram-Launched Toys

Apparently, scientists are developing a power station that runs off complaining. They plan to plug it into the EDO forums and reckon they can provide electricity for half the world.

Odyssey is here. You wanted space legs, you've got space legs.

It was never ever going to be perfect. Ever. FDev had to release five patches before fleet carriers were sorted. Why the hell did anyone think Odyssey was going to be perfect first time round?!

This always happens. Quit whinging. Life isn't perfect either, and no-one's got a hotfix for that.

What we've got works for the most part. Enjoy the bits that work, and chill the hell out about everything else. It'll get sorted, in time.

If FDev don't have a big banner in their offices that reads "DAMNED IF YOU DO, DAMNED IF YOU DON'T," then they should have.

Said my two penn'orth. Going back to enjoy Odyssey!

I'd like to think I'm being even keeled about this. Everyone else probably thinks the same about themselves as well.
As a developer myself, I know we don't sit around twirling our mustaches coming up with ideas to make our customers mad.
I also know that despite the saying, customers are sometimes wrong and occasionally even unreasonable.

Damn straight! I'm disappointed sure...I wanted more frames...but thats about it. 30 is playable in many areas.

I am a bit bummed that I can't move my carrier...but I bet that'll be fixed here in a bit. A week or two.

I'm sure things will improve, Horizons was a bit of a mess too initially.

But it's certainly not a good look for a shiny new release with lots of new players having their first experience of the game. Servers down / no missions / features disabled / graphical downgrades / bugs everywhere.

We didn't think it was going to be perfect. It was the fans who imagined that it was going to be.

What we ALSO didn't do is tie our supposed happiness and identity to a corporate product, one that was always going to be borked because very little care needs to be put into it, not when fans online will declare any criticism "throwing toys out of the pram"; but do you know what is the real mature, adult perspective? That there's no good in this world unless you're prepared to stop sitting around and dream, and go and fight to make the world a better place.

And that includes pushing for better standards in software. You remember, like we used to have, until you were all co-opted into corporate apologism and games could release with half the features missing, and you'd pre-order it anyway because without software to support, you didn't feel like you had any identity...?

Down with fanboyism, raise the black and red flags and demand better.

simp gonna simp

It's the biggest update the game's ever had so of course there will be wrinkles. I'm not thrilled with some of their (FDev's) choices, but some of the comments on here and elsewhere have been borderline hysterical.

I found it interesting the other day when my friend was playing in a wing and he told me his brother plays Elite on the PS4 and is bang into PP, like proper bang into it. I think they're pledged to Felicia.

So, that's at least five of you that still play it.
Not to mention CQC, multicrew, piracy and criminality, ranks, other placeholders........

The plethora of bugs are to be expected, and most people could figure out this was going to be a beta given the first phase was never disguised as anything but an alpha test.

However, given we're in beta testing phase, I think FDev should seriously consider boosting ARX earning rate for Odyssey gameplay. The payout rate is lousy atm. It'd incentivize more bug-testing and would be a show of appreciation from the Devs.

Software used to be simpler too. Mario was programmed by one guy. Now there are huge teams working concurrently on huge products with complexity that you is insane.

Seriously, those days are gone, either except the new reality or maybe modern games just aren't for you.
