Think Hudson is trying to get rid of social security since one of his quotes is getting all the unemployed "youths", 40 year olds because fed medical technology, into the space marines.
Though what would anyone in the Federation use slaves for? There's no need for human labor in manufacturing, food production, resource extraction, construction since robots do all that and even art, music and literature are done by AIs. Even Biowaste would be made more cheaply by some AI with robots making synthetic meats in vats than waiting for humans to grow up.
I picture the Federation as a more futuristic Judge Dredd setting, where 98% of the population is unemployed so they're all incredibly bored and resort to crime to pass the time. The few with jobs are either CEOs or in the military/police.
Elite could definitely do with Meat Wagons and Resyk Centres

There are only 7 of those folks working on Elite. I wish they would stop wasting money and time ordering coffee cups, shirts, and junk for themselves and spend some of our money on the game we gave them the money to work on. If the kickstarter had asked for cash to buy themselves trinkets, I don't think they would have gotten much.

He might have done. I do have to admit that the Shaggs are musically remarkable - once you've heard them you'll never forget - doesn't matter if you actually like them or not.
