Does anybody hold a RANK IN BOTH NAVIES?

@Daeron: Oh, this is the other side of the problem... if people took a Fed rank in gamma and now cannot get rid of it, nasty...

This would be a thorn in my flesh everytime I look on my faction tab, probably would ditch the whole commander sooner or later...

I think it would be very cool to own a federal Dropship and an Imperial clipper! Only then do you become a TRUE mercenary! LOL

Stop stealing my ideas!

You know, they could at least offer a way to DITCH your military standing. I don't want to feel dirty!

Start shooting stuff. They might kick you out.

You should be able to get both the fed Dropship and Clipper via boarding once available. I noticed one NPC spammed comms with something like ..."you are not boarding my ship today..." so hopefully we will be getting this mechanic sometime in 2015.

I'm imperial earl and federation lieutenant and plan to rank in alliance too. Im gonna fight alien invaders :)

@Tronicus: You're talking mainly reputation, and to get me right: I have not the slightest problem with people getting an allied standing with all major factions and a few dozen independ''ent minor ones... Great work, wooo :)

The military thing is another topic, however: It's just ridiculous that you can pledge for the Imperial Navy and the Federal Navy and hold a rank within their hierarchy at the same time... without any repercussions.

Maybe the whole immersion and inner logic thing doesn't fly so high for a lot of people... now I'm feeling old for the first time, dammit...

I feel as you do. I think FD borked this one up major. Earning and building up rep and rank for a faction should feel like an accomplishment, having CMDRS on the same faction showing up as green should make one feel a sense of brother/sisterhood. Seeing CMDRs from another faction show up red should provoke a sense of wariness if not outright hostility. Players should feel something, but right now it's so detached to the point of being completely meaningless. Just another grind to buy another ship or two.

When I was Hostile to the Feds, being hunted and harassed in all of Fed space, running to Empire space, finding a home and ranking up, getting friendly and Allied with Empire factions and to the Empire as a whole. I felt something for s while there. I felt a belonging, a kinship. And I felt hatred to, hostility to the Feds. It almost felt like one was truly involved in the Elite galaxy. Within a day the mirror cracked and the utter superficiality of it all became glaringly apparent. Somehow, while gaining rep with the Empire, I had become friendly back with the Feds. Without even trying. They even managed to Shanghai me into their Navy. And I became both an Earl of the Empire and a Post "office" Commander with the Feds. Allied and ranked to both factions for no good reason, without wanting to, without meaning to. Everything's gone green.

This is Elite. There's nothing to see here, move along now.

I"m a knight in the empire and a midshipman in the federation. Managed to get my clipper at this rank for being friendly with the empire. Then I borked a progression mission and now I'm unfriendly towards the empire. Would love to get back to their good graces just so I can buy the clipper again if I sell it but I'm not sure how much work it would require to even stop being unfriendly. I'm stuck in the clipper until then because I like it too much... :)

Baron and a Warrant Officer here. No problem for me, I offer homeland security services for both. If they went for open war, I think I'd join Alliance that day.

Nerf it all, nerf it to the ground.

You are an independent pilot, you come and go as you please. If you want to roleplay as belonging to one faction, do so as many are, don't ask for developer enforced restrictions.

Post Commander and Baron.

As long as there are so few ships in the game, I didn't really feel like being excluded from one of the few good ones

I am Ensign with the Feds and Baron in the Empire. Only ranked with the Empire because I got tired of the type-7 and decided to trade in the Clipper instead (good move btw!). That, and Baron Von Dogmeat has a nice ring, so i won't be going further with them.

It may be interesting to some that I remained 'unfriendly' with the Empire throughout the entire progression, and actively hostile with several local factions (back from my involvement in the Sorbago slave revolt...) so that probably needs FD looking at it. So not only did they happily promote me without ever liking me but even after all those assassinations and donations and acquisitions I only went from Unfriendly(red triangle) to Unfriendly(blue triangle). Thats major faction rep, obviously; I am friendly with a couple of local factions around Beta-1 Tucanae.
