Does anyone do the 'we require these goods' missions?

Heya!

Was just wondering about this, I always skip these missions, as basically I don't know where I would get those goods, and don't want to search 5 stations in order to find them (I find jumping systems, docking, checking, undocking, jumping system cycle to be a bit tedious).

I do tend to take the ones where they give me goods to bring somewhere.

Are other people doing this as well? Or is there a way in which I can 'guess' which system to go to to find a certain good?

Thanks! :)

I only started taking the "we need ..." missions for particular goods once I'd already found a station that sold the goods in the right quantities.

I started out taking just the courier and trade missions where the goods were provided and what I did when I delivered each mission was to check if the station or outpost had a black market (always useful to know) and what items it sold in the commodities market if it had one.

That meant if I saw a lucrative "we want ..." mission and I already knew a place that had it I could just go and get it. Most of these missions have a long time frame available so even if I had to do 3 or 4 jumps to get the goods I had time to do it.

But each to their own prepared way of working. Some people use the trade routes in the galaxy map, but they are not always accurate.

Yes, these are the easiest and most profitable missions ... before you accept, go to the galaxy map, bring up the trade routes and filter down to the commodity they are looking for and see where the source of that item is locally (the trade routes show direction as well as volume) ... if it's within reasonable jump range, take it and fill it :)

I'm doing those missions too, mostly just like you.
My notes are usually a mess though, and sometimes I rely on my too flaky memory which ends in surprised exclamation on my part "they don't sell that commodity here after all!". In those cases SYSTEM VIEW in the Galaxy Map and station EXPORTS in the System View are my friends, if the wanted commodity is listed as an export, you should find it for sale there.

I made a fortune in Beta 2 by carrying commodities that missions commonly required and tramping around the old systems taking and fulfilling those missions in one go.

Yes, I do these missions more than any other. You always have plenty of time, and it's a great way to get to know an area. I can pick up a whole bunch of them from stations I know I want to come back to (For upgrades or reputation building) then it's kind of like a scavenger hunt. Plus they pay pretty well. I really enjoy them.

Edit: I just use the in game tools and find what I want no problem. Though sometimes I had to go to 2 places to pick up enough of the commodity I wanted. You soon learn what the harder to get commodities are.

Yea, I do those missions when the pay is good enough and I happen to recall from where to get the required stuff within the given time limit. Also gotten into habit of carrying some extra of often wanted stuff - just so that I can deliver "right there, right now" if need be. Takes a bit of cargo space, but with big ship enough, that's not a problem (I'm right now basically flying from new system to another new system, exploring, checking mining prospects, and very rarely returning to already visited ones).

I've been doing them recently.
Found a couple of good places within 30ly that have most of the stuff that can be asked for.
Had three last night that, all wanting Auto-Fabricators, one at 350k, another at 330k, and the last one at 36k.
I had to buy a Type-6 just to be able to select the high paying missions, and then scoot around doing other missions to then find enough cash to actually buy the quantities of Auto-Fabs they needed.

I'm on the road to getting back my Asp, that I foolishly threw away by being an idiot.

Yes I do them too if they are high earners like C30k+, alongside courier missions. Galaxy map is enough for me to find suppliers, and sometimes can get exploring data as a bonus too

I'm always doing these missions and stack them up with other missions or a straight trade run. They usually have a fairly significant time allowance (5-8 hours) so it's no real drama fulfilling them and they often pay well.

At least they fixed the exploit on these missions, I remember in Beta 2.xx(I think) you could buy what these missions wanted in the same station, and those missions repeated for the 5 minutes timer the "Mission changer" had. From accepting this mission to handing in the goods took less than 15 seconds, at 9000 Cr a pop profit you could make nearly 200K in 5 minutes.

Noticed a couple of those in 3.03, but they didn't refresh, so it was a one time opportunity in both cases.

Its worth checking them out as sometimes you can buy the items from the station they are asking in, had many times where I literally open market buy items and hand them over in 10 seconds for 8k profit not bad for no effort.

I've done a few of them, mainly when I've seen the requested commodities at stations I've visited previously. The profit can be quite good if you find a supplier with a large surplus. Made quite a good profit shipping basic meds to Azeban City.

Wanted to do one yesterday, but you have to take them all at once. They needed 42 pieces and I was on a Sidewinder, I could have done 10 runs to complete the mission, but nothing, i could not accept.

I've done many of these mostly when the credits are very large. I think they're meant for those players whom are quite savvy with their surroundings and have a working knowledge of the surrounding systems markets. You can make quite a tidy sum once you know where things are and in a steady supply.

Shok.

Lots of good tips here. Might finally try these missions once I get a ship with cargo space, which will probably be for next release since bounty hunting si so broken right now that I barely make ends meet with my bounty hunting only Viper, which I won't sell after spending so much time upgrading it...
