Does anyone else get annoyed by this?

As the title says, does anyone else get annoyed by this? Is there a way to swap them so that left side is left click and right side is right click?

Well, yea - it's annoying and weird.

On XB, using the default context for XB controller, the primary is on the right trigger and the secondary on the left trigger, which is the correct match for hud / controls

But using the kb/m, the consistency goes down the drain - yes, in the windows world, left mouse button is the Primary while the right mouse button is the Secondary
So yea, It's very dubious to have the primary fire-group displayed on the Right side of the HUD, while having the primary fire-group trigger on Left mouse button

It's like the hud/controls were designed to be used with a Controller, but then they decided to add kb/m as well

I mean, the right hand Index finger (also known as trigger finger) is the Primary actuator (even for me, a leftie) so it makes sense for a controller to use that finger for primary Fire trigger.
The same index finger is also the finger used in the windows world for mouse primary button, the Left button, while the Right mouse button is a secondary button
Which means it's perfectly normal to have the left finger triggering what is known as the Primary Fire control trigger, but this yields conflicting results in having the HUD matching the Inputs when using controller versus mouse

My experience was really nice when i started to play ED on XB using a controller, but then It felt really weird when one year later i started on PC using the kb/m and it's still weird now, 3.5 years after i started on PC.

The solution is indeed to set the:
  • Primary Fire to Mouse 2
  • Secondary Fire to Mouse 1

which also look/feels weird

So, OP, you really need to pick your poison, that is to be annoyed about either:
your primary fire is set on the secondary mouse button (this is kinda poking at my OCD)
or
the hud displays primary on the right while you press the left button (and this again is poking at my OCD)

😅

(Edit: and no, renaming the Primary/Secondary to Left/Right won't work since it will annoy the hell out of Joystick users 😇 )

I'm only annoyed by using a caption / Threads title Like you did. It's like click bait. "You never guess, what this woman did"or "If you are annoyed by this, you should be worried"

I think this is one of those "Invert Y or not?"[1] things.

It's a bit like skateboard stances... "regular" stance is right-foot rear, meaning you face to the right.. so naturally you look to the right hand side.

For me, it's the same with my posture at the computer... in my swivel chair I'm twisted (comfortably) slightly to the right so my natural vision tends towards the right side of the screen; I need to put in effort to look on the left... therefore the right-hand side is "primary" and the left hand side is "secondary" to me.

The practical reality though is that I almost never look at either of the displays.... I just remember 1 is left button, 2 is right button and my fire groups.

tl;dr nope, feels natural to me... but I know there's some it wouldn't feel natural to.

[1] Just not invert X... you freaks....

I agree with OP, this is a non-intuitive minor annoyance for kb/m users. Easy work-around, but peculiar. Yes, you just assign left mouse btn as secondary weapon, right mouse btn as primary.

There a lots of minor annoying things with the game controls and UI.
  • Deploying SRV: The headlights default to ON making the planet darker. Almost always must turn headlights OFF.
  • Re-Deploying SRV: It remembers if I turned the handbrake ON, but does not remember I turned the headlights OFF.
  • SRV Drive Assist: More like "enable annoying crazy-time" assist. Must disable drive assist.
  • Ship UI: Navigation menu, no option to show bookmarked items (ex fleet carrier).
  • Ship UI: Sometimes can't see or read the parts of the heads-up display because of glare or interior lighting.
  • Ship UI: Missing the display nightvision On/Off status.
  • Ship UI: Messages placed on top of other messages???
  • Ship UI: "Ship Scan Detected" placed in center of screen during combat???
  • Ship UI: Can't see which combat fire group has been selected until after I have dropped out of supercruise. (In Horizons you could).
  • Ship UI: WANTED status is clearly displayed on main UI but notoriety is not??? -> must open a menu to see notoriety.
  • Ship Controls: I can't turn off ship interior lights.
  • Crime and Punishment: Various authorities say you have no reported crimes or fines against you when you do... you just need to go elsewhere to resolve them.
  • SRV: Picking up some raw mats like carbon or iron causes an explosion throwing my SRV around? Carbon causes an explosion??? And I put these raw mats in my pocket?

These aren't game breaking things. Just minor annoyances. Like a hole in my sock or a pebble in my shoe. This list could easily be doubled in size.

It doesn't annoy me as much in combat ships since I mainly only equip 2 types of hardpoints in my ships.

But when it comes to mining / research ships it really grinds on my gears since there's much more utility going on.
