Does anyone ever say "Must get me an Orca!"

Given the amount of work that it takes to design and deliver a new ship into the game there must be a rational for every design. i.e. some reason why they would create that ship and an expectation of the role it will play in the game.

I hear of people talking about progressing from one ship to the next but no one EVER mentions wanting an Orca or a Federal Dropship.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what role these two ships are supposed to fulfil?

At the moment mostly eye candy to be used by NPC.

I actually want one, but only after getting a Clipper. With my game time and efforts, by the time I can afford the Orca, the passenger transport modules and missions will probably already be implemented :p

Not unless your life ambition is to be a coach driver.

People are quite happy lpaying this game being the equivalent of a long distance lorry driver, so why not a coach driver?

In fact, a T-9 full of slaves is not very different from an Orca full of paying customer :)

Aye, if there's planet landings and this is atmospheric capable, and you need 'fly these dignitaries from here to there' then the Orca might be awesome!

Orca.. currently probably no reason to get one. But afaik they are passenger ships. So at some point in the future they might add passenger transport missions to the game. I imagine wealthy customers would want to travel in luxurious ships like an Orca and pay premium credits for it. Then it could suddenly become really lucrative to own a space taxi ;)

I have seen someone post that very statement on this forum.

As an aside, I imagine if it was a luxury liner, it would be the ship to go exploring in, probably suitable for long duration trips, were it not for it's jump range.

I hope when passengers are introduced we might get Cruise Missions like take us to this Nebula or set of stars for site seeing and return.

its like a Harley Davidson. Looks good but thats all. can't actually do anything well

The only place a Harley makes sense is in the USA. Heavy, rattly, overpriced & archaic. Wait...thats my T7...omg I am flying a harley....noooooooooo

Hoping it's use becomes apparent later, hopefully as a passenger liner to carry npcs and npc versions to transport us remotely to other stations over a period of time
As far as owning one...nah not even on my list of things to get

I would like one further on down the road when there's missions for it. Seems like an interesting and relaxing idea to be able to cart paying customers from planet to planet.

It would be something I'd enjoy jumping in and out of.

I want one to conduct Kow Tours accross the universe!!! That is my long term goal.......

'out of the left window, you can see pirates, out of the right window, you can see pirates....... erm.. MAN THE LIFEBOATS'

I want an Orca.

Yeah, statistically there are better ships for exploration etc, and frankly the Imperial Clipper probably would do everything I'd want from the Orca with the benefit of massive guns... but... well, the Orca is flupping beautiful so I want one anyway :D
