Does anyone have any guess as to how many planetary nebulae there are?

None.

But there are lots of Supernova Remnants...! :p

Though actually I would like to know if there really are any proper Planetary Nebulae in the game - i.e. nebulae with a white dwarf in the centre. I haven't seen any at all - just Supernova Remnants which are the ones that have neutron stars or black holes in them.

Yes. I´ve been in one hours ago :D

It´s a passenger mission target you can get from CANONN Institute. Just a bit more than 17000 Ly out near Colonia.

I found 16 undiscovered nebulae out of a survey of about 100 in the western galactic core. Of the rest, 80 or so were still uncharted in EDSM and 70 or so of those were basically unexplored. Some of the most prolific nebula hunters from the early years of the game -- CMDR Madraix in particular -- only ever scanned the nebula's core star. The trick is to stay away from heavily trafficked points of interest (Sag A*, core nebulae, etc).

I'm planning a trip to the southwestern core right now; I've currently scoped out a patch of 20 uncharted nebulae within 1000ly of each other. I'm expecting 1-2 will be first discoveries.

That is probably a large part of my problem...I do stay well off the beaten path, but probably TOO far off, as I spend most of my time in the gaps between the eastern arms.

Curse this thread...now I'm on the verge of having to take a detour from heading back into the eastern gaps and go to the core to try and snag me a nebula...

I really wish I could get the hang of finding these things on my own on the GalMap...

Me too. Honestly I've only ever come across like two undiscovered planetary nebulas in all of my hundreds of thousands of light years of exploration. Do people just browse the galaxy map looking for them? I was lucky to find the two I did, in that I (barely) noticed them out the front window while exploring. If my ship had been turned another direction I'd have probably missed them completely.
