Does anyone know of profiles for X52 that use the wheel to switch modes?

Hi all

With the increase in complexity with the controls of ED; I found myself short on buttons on my X52.

Then I remember that it has 3 modes; so technically you can have mode1 for flight; mode2 for combat and mode3 for exploring/scanning; which make sense.

Problem is: there is no official ED profile for the X52; the only one that I see in the list of profiles has only few actions, so I can't assign them to all my controls, and from my understanding, while I am in game, I cannot assign controls while switching mode; because the game has no clue about modes...only the Saitek application.

Does anyone know how to handle different modes with the X52 in ED? OR even better, if you know where to get a profile, that would be a great starting point. Thanks!

You have to do it indirectly. Each mode would send a different key press to the game and in the game those keys would be mapped to the functions you intended for each "mode".

I see, so I have to go in ED and assign commands there, then switch mode and assign different controls? Or do I have to assign the key used by ED, in the Saitek app?

Hi,

I maybe wrong, but I don't think ED recognises the mode wheel so trying to map controls to buttons across the 3 modes in game probably won't work?

For a set of comprehensive guides, see below (or search YouTube for 'Saitek X52 Pro: Elite Dangerous Setup' created by Matthew Wagner). He made 6 videos back in 2017 explaining the process. Since then a bunch of new features have been added to the game so some of the controls will need remapping but it may be a good starting point for you. Personally I had some issues in combat using the Saitek Joystick software with the mode wheel and some of Matthews mappings so now I get by using one mode and the pinkie trigger (recognised by ED and therefore configurable directly in game) and a minimal number of keyboard keys.

Good luck!
