Does anyone play this on Steam Deck?

I just got mine and I know it’s technically playable on Steam Deck but I’m wondering if anyone has figured out a good control scheme or if you really just have to use mouse and keyboard for this game.

How many USB ports does the SteamDeck have?

I don't own one, but I don't use mouse and keyboard when I'm playing Elite. I use an XBoxOne controller, and a footswitch which acts as a modifier key. That gives me all the buttons I need

While I can’t really use a foot switch for Deck I think you can program a button to be a modifier and it does have 4 paddle buttons in the back. So does that work out pretty well for you? I’d be worried that finer motion would be difficult, though Deck has one over the Elite controller in that it has track pads.

It's difficult for me to say how precise the XBox controller is. It feels pretty good. I've never lost an interdiction to an NPC in a long time, and I win quite a few of the interdictions when our squadron practises them. My railgun shots hit 90% of the time

But I'm a fairly old man so my piloting skills are not great, so I can't say whether my poor performance is down to my control set up, or my slow reactions

What are you even talking about? Piloting? I think you have the wrong game.

o7, CMDR.

You've found yourself in the Planet Zoo universe. Not the Milky Way. :geek:

Another consequence of old age isn't just slower reactions. My reading comprehension's suffered as well

I don't know if Planet Zoo's keybindings are as flexible as Elite's. If it is then the maybe the idea of using a footswitch as a modifier key isn't completely useless advice. It opens the mind to alternate possibilities anyway <shrug>

When FDev started forums for their new games we asked them to separate the topics as far as possible to stop these sorts of mistakes. I get the feeling they thought the cross contamination would help make players more aware of their other games

All it does for me is make me think they aren't too good at setting up forums

What is this foot switch you speak of?

If you plug it in without using the software it will default to being the same as pressing the "B" key on your keyboard

I find getting my foot to do some of the work makes it easier to hold my gamepad steady

I'm sorry, but you guys litterally have "elite" or "dangerous" saying in your sections, and unless you don't have a special mode switched on in your browser or whatever to overrride color coded sides, the elite forum is the only one color coded black and orange. The PZ forum has almost the same topics and a very similar color code as Planet Coaster and yet we somehow manage to not get lost every other week.

Don't get me wrong, I think we should all get along well as players, PZ forum users got used to greeting comanders here regularly and at the end of the day it's not a big deal, but blaming Frontier for "not being too good at setting up forums" pushed me a little over the edge here. What else are they supposed to do, than what they already did? At some point you have to ask yourself, if you're just not reading carefully.

There's no need for us to share the same forum. They could have set up completely separate forums with their own "What's new" sections

...but I can understand why they did it. Have you tried Elite: Dangerous? It's a bloody brilliant game with spaceships and stuff. Your chance to fly through a realistic model of the Milky Way galaxy is a mere mouse click away. Open your wallets today!
