Does anyone rate the Fed Gun Ship?

Who has enjoyed the Fed Gun Ship and what is it good for and why?
I am actually lookin for a blockade runner but if not for that .... what is the FGS for?:D

My current "rating" of the FGS would be Dog Poo Poo on a stick :) (Same review I gave it on wiki)

To stick to the definition of blockade runner you need to have a cargo capacity and high speed to... namely outrun the blockade to deliver something (smuggling?)... maybe cobra and asp are fitted for the role... the fgs is more an heavy frigate... very heavy... lots of weapons and lots of hull...

I think it's good for what it's designed for; Absurd fire power in a relatively small package.
It's not very maneuverable, and certainly not fast. Loses a little too much turn rate when above or below 50% speed for my tastes. Slows down a little too slow as well.
Works amazing in a wing so you can just keep a little distance, that way you can keep on target and enables you to get the most out of your firepower. It has very high armor, so can take a ton of punishment.

People's mistake with the ship is that they try to use it as a dog fighter when it's simply not. We have the Federal Assault Ship for that (dropship's not as good, but still not bad for dog fighting either imo).
Edit: This ship might just gain a bit more viability when we get ship launcher fighters, as it's one of the ships that will be able to deploy some.

I currently use my Asp as a blockade runner.... I just wondered what the FGS is for... my FAS is my fighter, my Asp does all else..... My Cobra mk III well that looks pretty....
Why have there been so many "meh!" ships released? most of them don't seem useful for a whole lot..

So unless you're part of a wing.... It's not much fun?
It seems there are several ships of limited use until future updates...

Federal gun ship is good when attacking surface bases (Those that you need to attack to do some surface missions.) You can have a lot of dump fire missiles and rain death to those defensive turrets, skimmers and easily take down generators.

it's pretty good because of the hardpoints. 4 mediums is very very strong, as medium multi-cannons are the most effective PVE weapon by a long shot (they do very good hull dps, good shield dps, extremely high damage per energy, good ammo capacity).

In PVP they're a liability because of how slow they are but they are relatively heavy and the mediums gives you plenty of options.

FDL and FAS are more popular, for a good reason, but the gunship (aka catfish) is quite underrated IMO, as the gunship is a tier higher than the FAS/Clipper in PVE.

I think the only part of the Federal Gunship I really like is... its insane SuperCruise agility :D
(still believe that's a bug... not too agile in normal space - but in SC it flies like a young Ballerina high on Performance Enhancers)

7 hardpoints, what's not to like? You can do like 1 lg and 2 med PA's on the bottom, 2 med fixed beams and 2 small turret beams and have Great fun.

I agree with Thetele the gunship is a specialised surface base destroyer, with dumb fire missile racks, pulse lasers and 2 class 1 turrets on top to cover your SRV after landing, the ship is a beast!! After the ship based fighters are introduced this ship will be even more of a one man wrecking crew........defense rest!

The gunship is a god in supercruise. I use it for undermining in Mahon territory. The thing turns in supercruise like an eagle turns in standard flight. So easy to interdict even elite npcs.

turrets on top to cover your SRV after landing

If you deploy turreted hardpoints before you get into your SRV, can/will your ship cover you from the ground in the event you get attacked while it's within range? If yes, that could make skimmer cleanup all the more interesting.
