PvP Does anyone really use a Joystick + Fixed Weapons vs Small Ships.

Not much else to add.
Tried a “great fixed weapon” experiment with my joystick vs an Eagle then a Vulture last night.
Think I still be fighting them if someone hadn’t had jump in.
Anyone really use a joystick with fixed or kb + mouse?

I switched for the increased damage and the fact that the special weapons from PP are all fixed.
In the ultimate bit of irony my flying and shooting was so terrible I firmly believe my “damage per second” would be 50x greater with turreted weapons!

The times I tried I ended up tossing the joystick in anger so I refrain from fixed+joystick+small ship targets - for the health of my hotas.

I personally find it quite easy now but it was definitely a struggle at first.
You just gotta practice with it and be patient. You're not going to become a pro pilot overnight.

No only joystick, also Flight Assist Off all the time.

this is done with dual stick and full fa off
using curves on the stick for rotation though (pitch yaw roll)
so its doable and imho a lot of fun

I always fly with joystick and as a general rule of thumb have a blend of fixed and gimbaled, never been a problem fun and versatile. Module hits are a lot easier with mouse but I really don't like the feel of mouse flight so I never bother.

I gitted-gud on fixed by slapping huge PA's into a corvette once you can stonk eagles that way any other fixed stuff in any other ship is much easier (or it was for me).

Use of modified curves for joystick for sure helps. I use fixed guns and joystick myself (T16000 FCS original drivers + https://xedocproject.com/joystickcurves.html ), it works very well. I however use FAOff only partially, if OP asked about FAOFF and jostick plus fixed vs small things, this may be something very different (still doable, imo, but more difficult as kb+m.)

I'm using stick and Keypad for a long time now. It's all about practice. Also, fa off helps since you just need to give the ship the right direction and then fire by reflex.

I spend most of my time in my Python equipped with 2 x turreted beams and 3 x APA's. I use a HOTAS and love this combination in the Python.

HOTAS and fixed Gauss vs Scouts...i'm killing 150 - 200 a week...(By comparison NPC Human ships seem a breeze)
Just get used to flight patterns, use thrusters as well as Pitch/Roll/Yaw...
take your shots when they're changing direction...so relative angular motion is low...you'll be fine!

I do. Fixed rails mounted to a Krait Mk. II. I use a Thrustmaster Warthog (which has precise but quite stiff controls, instead of fast and swift ones) and can hit an Eagle in both close combat and from kilometers away. Its just a game of thinking ahead to bring yourself in a good firing position or keep the enemy from breaking your cycle of attack. It is hard work though, but that is what gives the fun, right?

Yep.

Ages ago joysticks were the default device for flight-sims and I always used KBM because it was more accurate but then I made the conscious decision to start using a joystick/throttle and pedals for the sake of a more enjoyable experience.

At first it was painfully difficult and frustrating but I just preferred the feeling of "authenticity" it provides over the feeling of "doing well at a game" that KBM offers.

It helps if you have decent joystick software that allows you to twiddle the linearity so that you can minimise the deadzone and damp the movement of the stick near the centre.
Also, fixed weapons in ED do have a small amount of tracking so once your joystick is set up fairly well, the tracking of the weapon will finish the job.

Okay then. I will make one of my smaller ships fixed weapon only and practice.
Not concerned with the big ships it’s those pesky small ones.

I barely ever pvp so never use fixed. One day thought I may as well get some practice in & made a rail DBS. Took it for a practice run in a HAZ and, well, I was so bad the npc pirates would often ignore me in favour of attacking other npcs. The shame was real and pierced deep into my heart. I havent flown that ship since.
