Does anyone run ED on a 21:9 3440x1440 display?

Evening Commanders!

It's monitor upgrade time for me. I've been using my trusty dell 1920x1200 for a while and I am looking for something bigger. This is not purely a gaming machine and I need the vertical res for the photography stuff I do.

I've been quite taken with the idea of a 21:9 screen as, while I like to idea of a triple screen setup, I don't want to buy two more screens when a single will do everything I need.

Does anyone else play ED on one of the newer 34" 21:9 screens at 3440x1440?

I will also need to upgrade my graphics card should I go this route. I currently have a GTX750ti - Am I going be able get by with smooth gameplay using a GTX980?

Any input welcome

Rikk

I have an AOC U3477 and a GTX 780 (factory OC). All settings on high/ultra and GPU runs at between 50-85% in space but runs at 90-95% inside stations. This is with v-sync on and at 3440 x 1440, also running ShadowPlay.

I run Elite on a 21:9 monitor with a GTX 780 works flawlessly. Here are some screens and a video:

I never want to go back to a regular monitor... :)

EDIT: I also use this monitor and PC for work (video and audio production - with a fair amount of graphical work).

A word of warning: A very good friend of mine had a 21:9 monitor for his gaming rigg and a lot of games are just NOT prepared for that. From the images above it seems that E: D is the odd one out. He plays a lot more different games than I and he's a very knowledgable guy when it comes to computers. So when he says he's disappointed by it, I trust him to have tried a lot of different alternatives to find the right aspects and such.

There are a number of games that don't support 21:9 this is true. Most Ubisoft games do not support the aspect ration, the older EA games do not support it very well either (Mass Effect 3 and before). The majority of the games from independent studios and smaller publishers support the aspect ratio just fine.

More game do support it than those that don't. But yes, there are quite a number of problematic games out there too. But Elite is hardly an exception or the odd one out...far from it.

Thanks folks, just what I needed to hear.
My bank balance probably didn't need to hear that... but hey...

Fortunately I don't need to worry about other games, although thankyou for the heads up. My days as a hardcore gamer who will play every title under the sun are long since past. I now play Elite and Battlefield 4. I know both support the resolution and I am now happy both should be smooth with a GTX980. I did consider SLI 970's but the idea of having another slot available in future for another 980 kinda appeals to me... ;)
