Horizons Does anyone think that you might be able to trade with Thargoids or even befriend them?

Will this just be this stupid alien faction that always attacks you no matter what, or will there be interesting gameplay involving the Thargoids where we can trade and maybe team up with them. As a pirate, I'm on the other side of the law a lot, meaning I'm hostile with a few factions and powers. I don't plan on fighting the Thargoids, so does anyone think you'll be able to at least be neutral with them? Think of the things Frontier could introduce! Thargoid engineers, Thargoid commodity markets, an entire Thargoid language to learn, and maybe some of their weapons or stations.

Would be an interesting gameplay mechanic for very rare smugglers.[alien]

You are making some hellish assumptions here - are they Thargoids? Do we really know that?

Thargoid tech, maybe. But I suspect the wool has been pulled over everyones eyes in the bubble.

Check out the Galactic Conspiracy thread.

I think these "thargoid ships" are actually Sirius Corp.

Welcome our new leaders!

It would certainly be interesting to align yourself with Our New Alien Overlords: Access to organic tech like self-repairing hulls would be a big pull for players. It depends on what THEY want... if they want to conquer us, subjugate us and steal our resources I will fight them tooth and nail. If there's an option for peaceful coexistence, I'd really love to explore this option as a collaborator!

I hope there is an option to ally yourself... but I don't think there will be.

I still think our octagonal flower ship aliens are not the danger. Sure, we meet them in combat aftermath sites, they sure hyperdict some of us, but then again there have been wrecks of them out in the black just as there are wrecks from us. I think a second alien race is gearing up to trash us both, and we'd be wise to ally with the flower guys. Their ships are probably just observers, and they make sure to get away when one of your ships turns up at a battle site. Why should they do that if they trashed the wrecks there in the first place ?

The Thargoids are just floating salvage that's currently immortal due to non lore friendly strings being pulled in the background.

Considering how almost non-existent our Interaction options are with human NPCs... I highly doubt it.
It'll be PewPew as usual.

Anything else would be realistic, add depth, immersion and give Players Sandbox-like Options to investigate (whatever comes of it). Nope, that's definitely not where ELITE is headed ;)

We'll soon get MultiPew(tm), and you can bet a Fiver that they'll put that to good use when it comes to Alien Encounters.
Space Invaders 3D(tm), coming to a Holo-Me Screen near you... soon(tm) :D

I think it would be an interesting mechanic to bring First Contact to the game to avoid the mind-numbing repetition of Sci-fi games that involve blasting the heck out of every alien we meet. Presumably they would be more advanced than us and gaining reputation and influence with them could give access to non-human tech - that could be a good thing!!

Maybe you could 'meet them in space' somewhere initially (maybe a megaship) and, by interacting with them positively, you could gain a permit to a locked system and that could be where they have planetary or star bases with which you can interact.

Just a thought if your listening FDEV!!!

If I was Thargoids I would have spent the last fifty years perfecting the mycoid virus to work with human drives then make a massive appearance and say "stitch this jimmy" in whatever alien language they have and launch the lot ;)

Well if they hadn't killed off Shepheard we could have had Alien encounters on the other computer.
My son has the new Mass Effect and looking over his shoulder. I don't like it.

Explorers have been asking for something to do. When the Thargoids come, they can scout for their bases and report back.

The miners will be busy mining for materials to rebuild all the bases the Thargoids are going to blast to oblivion.

The traders will be bringing in materials to rebuild/build new stations to take the fight to the Thargoids.

All the combat pilots will be forming wings to take the Alien ships head on (save your credits for those re-buys).

All those Fed and Imp CMNDR's will be drafted into official Navy squadrons to undertake missions into Thargoid space and for joining the Navy will get subsidized re-buys and access to military hardware.

Engineers will be using captured Thargoid tech to create new weapons.

So, no I don't want to be friends.

And CMNDR's that go over to the Thargoid side will be the subjects of some nice bounty hunting.

IMHO.

I'd only be interested in trading my culture and ammunitions. Wait... I fly a 4x 2F Pulse laser FDL most of the time... So photons. I'd be a photon trader.
