Does anyone use Comms?

Recently I have tried to talk to many players but no reply.

I have had 1 player contact me and that's it during the time I have played SB.

Is it due to players not knowing how to use comms, the unreliability of it, or simply not noticing.

its tricky as the main 2 places you see other players are in SC and close to the station. in SC you have your hands full navigating and you could be due to drop out any second (losing contact) and again near the station you have your hands full docking.

hopefully they will introduce a method where, once contacted you can stay in touch; as long as you remain in the same system. to some this will be immersion breaking but it beats how things stand - the number of times i've hit send and had 'message not sent - contact lost' or something like it pop up in reply is unreal.

im not even sure how to chat, once I was spoken to, and by the time I figured out how to reply he was long gone.
The chat interface is pretty poor at this stage.

A lot of people haven't set key bindings I guess as i don't think there's a default setup.

there is a default, its 2 to open the chat menu. the only problem is once you do a lot of the controls stop working (xbox360 pad but i'm sure its across the board) making it hard to do anything else like slow down.

I've found it easy with no setup

Target player and hit enter brings the comms up and just type your message and enter again.

Seems easy

Definitely once comms are open with a player they should continue

Also, I added someone as a friend and I've had trouble even chatting to them!

I tell ya what!

Next time someone tries to contact me I'll jettison a canister of tea or coffee!

Just let me know which you would prefer

I'm flying in an anaconda around aulin ibootis or that sort of area

I agree, we need a station zone wide comms system. currently trying to interact with people is like pulling teeth. their teeth. People never reply.

tried having so many conversations with people. It just doesn't seem to work or people are avoiding me because I might be a pirate.

Incoming text comms don't have audio signal, while audio does. Also people drop out of supercruise too soon to respond.

There won't be system wide broadcasts by default.

But are you?

How do we know?

Couple of times chatted with commanders, works ok but you need to stay close to each other because you cant chat with someone if he is not in scanner range.

Voice comms sounds really cool, and works little different. If you started voice comms then you can speak even if you can't see each other on scanner.

Heya!

Nice to meet you Catchy, it was fun finally to talk to someone, hehe.

And you got to keep yer coffee too as I had just brewed some of me own. :D

See you around again!

Cheers!

ps:

I´m a hotas user and did not have the keybindings preconfigurated.
Took me awhile to figure out it all, but now its fine.
Just look up in esc menu for keybinds and scroll down to comms and assign a key of your choice.

I got a mic for voice comms but can't get anyone to talk to me. I don't even know if the set up works yet.

I have a mic also. I've given up on trying voice calls though, and every time I come along someone in SC I give them a quick Txt to say hello. Only ever had two responses, which is understandable for the short time it takes to get to the point where you need to drop into real space.

I'm not cut up though. I understand that this is only the Beta and FD will implement better interaction with other players. I'm just happy that they are going down this path and that I don't have to look for 3rd party software like teamspeak just to say G`Day.

And to you!

A clear example of it working!

When getting a text chat message from someone, it would be useful if just hitting enter with no target would be a reply to the last message sent or something. As it is now it is not obvious how to respond, and even when you know it is a Little bit of a pain. You have to either find which Contact on your radar is the one sending the message to you and target them, or hit 2 and select them and then select to send a chat message to them. Both ways are kind of clunky.
