Newcomer / Intro Does collecting raw materials with flak launchers from the ship not work anymore?

Used to be a great, fast way to gather raw materials. Go to a crystalline forest, fire flak launchers from the ship, let the collector limpets gather them, get a bit high for less limpet losses. However, trying to do it now, all my limpets get destroyed. I have also noticed that the limpets generally are slower, say when farming titan drive components, they are not what they used to be.

Anyone successfully harvesting raw materials this way lately? Is the limpet behavior that different? Or maybe i am at the wrong place??

There seems to have been a change, I haven’t managed to collect raw materials from crystalline forest using flak launcher & limpets since mid March. Same for brain trees, which is even worse since you cant even tell which trees harbor Selenium till after you shoot em with a SRV.

I’ve read a post where it says there have been reports that it is still possible, you just need to hit em at the right angle or something. I’ve tried several angles & altitudes with no luck so I’ve been using a SRV lately. The Flak still “shakes” the material to the ground, but then the limpets won’t collect it there, but rather rather crash into the surface.

So maybe two people can do it, one shooting from above, the other one scooping with the SRV ;)
Suggested so myself.
Before I get any complains, I’ve only done my mid-March observation (flak & limpets) on brain trees. I didn’t have an SRV on the ship at the time, so I didn’t see any point flying out to the crystal forest region. But I don’t see a reason why it shouldn’t work on the crystals (the flak that is).

As far as I could observe the flak behaved as before they ‘fixed’ it, it’s the limpets that refuse to pick stuff from the ground, no matter which angle they are launched at (or maybe I just couldn't). I went low altitude and could actually see them slamm into the ground next to the visible raw material.

Yeah I can confirm, I tried that too. You can still gather the mats with the SRV though.

I must be one of the few players on Elite that doesn't mind the grind (as long as it is gameplay I like).

Would you consider Elite Dangerous to be a Sim?
Not entirely. But it is a game that has a lot of Sim in it.

To be honest I don’t see Elite Dangerous as anything other than the latest version of Elite. Which is why when I see people comparing it to some other game or saying it is an MMO I become less convinced by their post.
