Does everyone start at the same station?

I was wondering if everyone starts at the same station in the same system. I decided to pledge to an empire leader and our capital is 40+ jumps away!!! I'm gonna make the trek in the name of exploration but that's a lot of fuel and jumps. I hope when the final patch is released you can choose from a set of starting areas to put you close to which leader your leaning towards

The PC guys had a couple of different starts... Maybe we should ask everyone... Post below where you started.

LHS 3447
Trevithick Dock.

Think they may have changed start system after public launch or something.
I also started in LHS 3447, and it's a butthole of a system. Get out ASAP.

For traveling, the starting sidewinder is pretty bad, short range small fuel tank etc.

If you have a about 200k you can get an top class frame shift drive a spare tank and a an OK fuel scoop, and it's my fave "shuttle" ship.
This should get you up to almost to a 20ly jump distance (if you sell guns and shield and go with low weight mods)
And you should be able to cover nearly a 100ly distance between fuel stops if you add a few extra spare tanks.
If you scoop often you won't have to stop at all and fuel becomes free.
If you are just starting it would probably be better to spend this towards a a hauler or an adder.

PS:
Also go into galaxy map under navigation change the setting from economic (lower fuel consumption) fastest (fewer but longer jumps)

Starting system since steam launch has been LHS 3447. Everyone will start there.

Suggestion from a PC player is get to Eravate as quickly as possible. Its a much better system with more options for ships, upgrades, etc.

+1 for "get to Eravate". I started at Trevithick Dock too. *shudder* It's only 4Ly (I think) and you get a system with a name, and a shipyard. :) With 100,000Cr to start with, it's possible to upgrade to an Eagle or Adder immediately. The Adder has much better cargo options. I think I'll get into some of my earlier behaviour of running rares a bit to build up some capital. It's like going back to school. Awesome and grin-worthy.

You only get the "freeagle" if you pledgded during beta or earlier, for us who bought this on steam post 1.2 doesn't get any freebies like that :)

Simple newbie question: Any reason to head to a capital system (lol, I've no idea what is that too, too newbie)? Better economy? Better choices? Ships?
Is there any good environment tutorial for ED? I mean something to make you understand what ship is better for what, a good way to start trading and/or bounty or so?
I've played for some hour, did some missions but still feel lost in this big universe. :)

Also, I can't really do the Incursion training mission (first one, the second I didn't even tried). I've killed all ships but last one really ripped me apart. Anything to read to know good fighting strategies? I feel like a sitting duck while his laser is frying me. :)

I didn't get the Freagle option when I started up, although I'm a Kickstarter backer. Maybe when the main game is launched? Not that I care. My little Eagle server me well, but no tears when I sold him for an Adder 6 months ago. :D

You need to search on the main forum for hints'n'tips unfortunately. It's a MASSIVE game, and there's a lot to learn. There are subforums for trading, exploring and outfitting a ship. The galaxy map has some options for showing trade routes too. In general for upgrades look for big, High Tech systems as they'll have a lot more, especially for bigger ships. To start with, almost everyone does some trading. There are tools out there for helping, but in general it's more fun to buy something and find somewhere to sell it. Keep some money in the bank for insurance. Always. That's almost Elite Dangerous rule #1!

Quick tips for those who have massive number of jumps for travelling: in the galaxy map, you should be able to switch the routing option to "Fastest route" instead of "Economic route".

The Economic route mode finds the path of travel that consumes the less fuel, whereas the fastest route find you the route with the less jumps, but it will take its toll on your fuel.

From someone who plays the PC version I think on of the best things to do to get started is to grab an Adder asap and upgrade the FSD, the shield gen, and grab as many cargo racks as possible and a fuel scoop. I had to do a couple of bulletin board missions to get these. But now I'll be heading over to the Lave system. And trading in rates. Lave/Diso/Leesti and a couple of the other systems there have rares. Then travel about 160lys and sell for HUGE profits. If you look for rare trade routes you'll be making your first million in about 2hrs.
