Newcomer / Intro Does exploration get more exciting when you get further?

I just finished my first bigger exploration trip. I was maybe 800 LY away from the civilization. Initially I was going to travel to Sagittarius A, but then I realized that it is a looong trip, and I returned home and collected 2.5 million credits (tens of first explorer rewards). Somehow it seemed that most solar systems are quite similar to each other, there are just some variations. However, I've read that some explorers have found very interesting systems. Is there more variation when you get further, or do you just have to explore a lot of systems to find something special?

As a seasoned explorer, I can tell you that the further out you get, the more everything stays the same.

You can come across things that could be described as odd or special, but its got nothing to do with distance from SOL, Sag A or anything. It's purely down to luck.

I'm seriously considering returning home now. I've been out here for weeks and weeks and I think I can say that I'm not going to see anything that's going make me want to stay out for much longer.

The way the galaxy has been created it is possible to find areas that consist of different mixes of stars, I'm in a region that has a lot of white dwarf stars, neutron stars, red giants, a scattering of Wolf-Rayet stars and Ae/Be protostars, right now I have my sights on an S-class star and then a carbon star. Many solar systems are variations on a theme (I have my own names for some types of systems), but occasionally you come across an absolute peach of a system.

Sometimes it is being lucky, other times it is careful study of the galaxy map, other times it's just knowing what to look for. The human occupied area of space does seem to be a bit tame compared with getting right out there.

I have seen many interesting sights and there are many reasons to explore, going to a Nebula seems to increase chances for finding interesting systems (thrre and going to and from it). But it is down to you to pick systems to look at.

Different places have different things. Even the GSN/Dark Zone (whatever you want to call it) gets dull after 100 BH, eventually I craved a system with some heat and left. Odd that the first one I found was a binary BH, never saw another, I wanted a triple.

Its all the same yet completely different. Yet to see any 2 systems the same. Yes there are the boring red dwarf / ice planet systems but treat them as a quick hop onto the next. I think if you spend time studying the galaxy map and plotting your next jump(s) you will find better systems and reap better rewards. All be it on my current path about about 1200ly out nearly all the white or brighter star systems have already been discovered.

Found an absolute cracking system last night, 3 stars all in close proximity to one another. 2 white and 1 yellow. Got a very nice selfie of the yellow star eclipsing the white one. Will post it later when I get home.

Fantastic Pics ! :)

The brown dwarf systems are as numerous in the game as they are reckoned to be in actual life but the nebulae and multi-star systems plus black holes will make up for the mundane. The problem with our galaxy here is scale. It's pretty much one to one. That astounds me  but the down side will be that getting around the place will take time.

Open a good bottle of wine and enjoy the journey ;) tis what I do :)
