Does FDEV hate Explorers?

No heat sink reammo...the one thing an explorer actually needs to resupply when thousands of light years away? This was done deliberately. Why was this the case?

Who cares for heatsinks, if they want to show their love, they should release FSD mods that make it charge and cooldown faster.

If you need heat sinks while exploring, you need to explore more : this is not the best way to deal with overheating when entering a barbecue system.

Heatsinks while exploring are for emergency "DOH!" moments and should not happen often.
If you find yourself constantly running out you may need to examine what you are doing...

If ye need heatsinks then yer doing something wrong...one was never able to synth heatsink ammo anyway, so why is this a problem now?

I agree with the OP here.

It seems like a valid question. I am guessing it was to do with balancing heat weapons etc.

I think part of the "problems" introduced balance wise for synthesis, could be solved by simply making it take a couple seconds to load in the new "stuff" you made, so it's not instant reload.

It's not you being persecuted.

It is because Heat Sinks are also used extensively in PvP and manufacturing heat sinks would allow players to silent run indefinitely, and effectively ignore any heat penalties or thermal weapons. It would break the game.

You shouldn't really be spamming through them anyway. They're for those complete disaster moments.
If ammunition is crucial, then one of the new engineers does a mod which increases the ammo to 3 shots.

Well I know they are for emergencies, but the point still stands, why can they not be resupplied like everything else? Are they made from Unobtanium? I can hardly see why I would want to use any of the other synthesis options. I have been on a long journey, and it is annoying when you finally run out of heatsinks. Also, I have passengers on board who are already miserable, them losing more satisfaction to hull damage cold tip them over the edge :)

Interesting, I had not considered this. Could they not just increase the cooldown (ironic term i suppose) time on using heatsinks though? Now I think when I used my Asp a while ago, I used to use the heatsinks to fire continuously for the best part of a minute.

Their nonexistent PvP is very important to them. :>

Wrong thread :)

With the new potential dangers though it is something you have to wonder why it cannot be restocked when weapon ammo and whatnot can, and I mean a heat sink is in those aspects a simpler construction?

One of the most popular uses of a heatsink is to counter the heating effects of a SCB charge. Making heatsinks have a cooldown would interfere with this and devalue SCB's.

For the reasons I outlined: It would allow players to silent run for an indefinite period. It would allow players to fore high-thermal weapons indefinitely. It would entire negate thermal damage. It would break PvP combat.

At the end of the day it's a choice: Help explorers who screw up a tiny bit versus completely destroying PvP balance. It's an obvious choice to make.

If you are suffering routinely from heat while exploring, a better solution is to look to ways of reducing those levels, by either a different build on the ship or by changing the habit that causes overheating. For long range exploration a cool-running ship is essential. A ship which routinely overheats while scooping needs some work in other areas: 'A' class stealthed reactor FTW.

That's a crap argument and easily resolved with a few minor changes

Don't allow heatsinks to syth with hardpoints deployed.
Make them take a longer period to create (explorers won't care about setting for 3 minutes while sything a heatsink if needed)
Make them syth 1 at a time (instead of refilling the entire stock)

Good luck sything a heatsink while in combat and not getting crapped on. Sure you could jump out then wait and jump back in but how is that different than jumping out and going to a station to restock, other than a bit of time. In some cases (depending on distance to starport/outpost) it might even be faster to fly there and restock than to syth 1 heatsink at a time with 3 minute period for each one.

There are ways to avoid the issues synthing a heatsink could cause for PvP combat.
