Does free roam bounty hunting increase rank with your place of power?

If I spend the majority of my time at nav beacons hunting wanted, does this increase my actual rank? Or do only bulletins do this? I haven't really noticed my rank moving up when I do, but it might just be moving up incredibly slow this way. For me, this is a good way to make quick and easy money. Also, do any specific sort of missions yield in the most rank advancements? E.g. mining, smuggling, bounty missions?

I almost exclusively just farm resource sites, and that does increase my rank.

I've gained 2 ranks just doing that.

yeah, I may give that a try. That's the one thing I haven't done. I used to transport/ smuggle a lot, but I've seen a tremendous drop-off in transport missions, since last summer. I barely see them offered anymore. Of course, that could be because I sold my transport build and have since switched powers. I was able to make 800K+ inside of an hour, just doing smuggle runs and generally just chaining together missions, from station, to station and picking them up as I go...even weeding through the lower paid ones I picked up and abandoning them for the much higher paid...but it got boring and I wanted to fight lol

I don't quite get what you mean by 'place of power'...but killing random wanted people anywhere does increase your combat rank but not your fed/emp rank if that is what you are asking.

Yeah, the last part. That's what I was asking. Increasing my Empire rank, for instance. My place of power being the Empire, as opposed to Archon, Federation, Empire etc.
