Newcomer / Intro Does kinetic resistance in shields/armor also protect against crashing/bumping damage?

I suspect not as just like thermal resistance not protecting you against heat from stars, it seems to be more about weapons. But I wanted to confirm it anyway.
 
So the amount of shields/hull you have does matter, but resists don't? Just making sure I got this right.

If you have an ADC fitted then watch your shields as it bumps around the station structures when in a queue to launch. If you had no shields then you would get some hull damage (try it). If you go mining without shields then be careful as little bumps from a rotating asteroid can turn into big badaboom.

The raw damage from collisions is first absorbed by shields (ignoring resistances to damage types, but having more pips in shields allows them to absorb more raw damage!), then the hull (again ignoring resistances to damage types).
