Does Rare Goods trade boost economy state?

Does anyone know? The ingame info is a bit conflicting. The profit per ton is quite high, but the demand is zero, which typically results in DAMAGE to the BGS faction in question.

Well I tried it out and it doesn't seem to hurt, anyway. The economy state went up slightly. Assuming, of course, there weren't others working there.
