Does scanning without visiting have any benefit?

When you go to an unknown system, the star is the 1 undiscovered object that pops up - then as a matter of course, I fire off my discovery scanner, and sometimes get x more undiscovered objects. If I don't bother to visit these, to target them and identify them - do they provide any cash benefit when you sell the info? I'm assuming not, so as a supplementary question - is the quality of the scanner array the thing to upgrade if you want to identify these undiscovered objects from further away?

You get cash for all discovered objects. (With the basic/intermediate/advanced discovery scanner --- these affect the range .. advanced will discover ALL objects in a star system)

You get more cash if you fly to the object and scan it.

You get the most cash by doing the above and having a detailed surface scanner equipped.

Ok a few questions here, I'll try to answer as best I can.

Discovery scanner (Basic/Intermediate/Advanced) give you system scans.
System scans give you basic amount of credits depending on what's there. Basic/Intermediate/Advanced is only the range with basic only finiding objects within 1,000Ls and advanced finding all objects in the system.

If you then fly up to an object and scan it so that it changes from undiscovered to: Sun, O type etc etc that is called a surface scan.
This surface scan will give credits in addition to the system scan.

Outfitting with a detailed surface scanner will boost all surface scan credits and also put more information on the system map screen for that object.

If you are the first to scan the object you will get a 50% bonus on the credits and you'll get 'first discovered by' tag on the object.

Except asteroid belts, you dont get anything for these yet you need to scan them before you can drop into them - annoyingly
