probably something like this..

never heard of anyone getting banned from Elite.

Are players who have been shadow banned in ED or other online games informed of this? If so, it's a rather different application of the idea than is used on forums. Traditionally the idea of shadow banning (or stealth banning), is that the person who is banned can see their own posts but nobody else can. They think they are being ignored, so they eventually give up. This is a last resort for users who have been repeatedly getting around regular bans by making new accounts and changing IPs.

In ED, even if you weren't informed, surely you would realise very quickly. Even if you could see other players that have been banned, this must be such a small number that you would very rarely see anyone at all. Seems to me there would be nothing stealthy about it.

Yes people have been banned, there were a few after some high profile exploits.

I can't link as cheater forum but the forum is "unknown", google the phrase "Elite dangerous player banned" and it'll be in the first page with the title ban wave for Robigo. Should be maybe 6th/7th one down.

Also this high profile one I can remember from reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/5jx5jp/fd_blame_me_clogger_and_banned_permanently/
Hopefully thats not against the rules since they outed themselves on reddit and it's there for all to see.

But yes, you do 100% get informed if you get a shadowban.
