Does South America REALLY Need Tropical Animals?

Aight, as the title suggests, does SA need tropical species to feel more complete? And exclude birds and primates, please; those are kinda obvious, so let's avoid any mention of them (I'm talking to YOU. You know who you are)

I feel like Argentina could get better representation, as in the lower areas, like the pampas and Patagonia. Also, Chile, I.e. the mountains.
What're some solid suggestions?

Yes, it does. Immediately, the south american coati comes to mind. And then there is also the peccarie, which, while being mainly associated with deserts or grasslands on this forum, also lives in the rainforest.

I am also for bolstering the pampas and andes. The mara would help most in that regard imo, as it could be combined with the Lamas (and peccaries), and small mammals are always welcome to me. The rhea is also an option, but I fear people might not find another ratite as interesting after we now have ostriches, cassowaries and the emu. Finally, I believe the spectacled bear would also be benefitial despite bears being a group of animals with strong representation.

It does. Not exclusively tropical species, certainly, but it absolutely still needs more tropical species. The ocelot and a coati are the big two, I think. They're the only non-birds/monkeys I'd say tropical South Ameirca capital-letters NEEDS. Beyond them, I'd say southern tamandua, Brazilian porcupine, bush dogs, and even the undoubtedly controversial Brazilian tapir would be great picks, but they're all far less essential. And then there's the sloth, which I don't even know. I'm forever stuck in a loop of thinking it should be a habitat species, or a walkthrough exhibit species, or just shouldn't be included since it won't be perfect either way.

I think several of South America's biggest needs at this point do lie outside of the tropics, though. Rhea, mara, and spectacled bear obviously fill out the top of that group.

Also I insist on getting another flamingo so I'd welcome the Chilean flamingo as well.

Personally I think the walkthroughs would be perfect for a Sloth. I have seen the Sloth in London Zoo (which has a massive habitat) so many times and I have literally NEVER seen it move 😆 Even the babies seem to be surgically attached to the mother.

Well, I don't see the point in excluding monkeys because that's obviously a huge reason it does still need representation (and of course aviary birds but since we don't 100% know if those are coming)...
  • Coatimundi
  • Peccary
  • Ocelot
  • Curassow
  • Ocellated turkey
  • Bush dog
  • Tamandua
  • South American porcupine
  • Sloth
I would like to ideally have at least 4 of those added, with preference given to the coati, ocelot, peccary, and tamandua.

Yes, south america need tropical but also non-tropical animals....there just too many things still interesting... like:

-Primates like Saki Monkey, Squirrel Monkey, Bald Uakari (rare), Spider Monkeys, Howler Monkeys and all kinds of tamrins
  • Two-Toed Sloth
  • Spectacled bear
  • Coatimundi
  • patagoanian Mara
  • Collared peccary
  • Vikuňa or Guanaco
  • Tamandua
  • Bush Dog
  • Ocelot
Birds that can be habitat:
  • Scarlet ibis
  • Roseatte spoonbill
  • American Flamingo, Chillean Flamingo

One could argue that South America or at the very least the Amazon is the only region in the game that so far that has a well rounded roster of animals which to me makes it feel more complete than others in some ways. It's the only region that also with a strong selection of exhibit animals to fill out the gaps between the habitats. But does it need more? Yes and these are predominately primates and various colourful birds.

Looking at the continent as a whole though and other areas need attention more than the rainforest and using the OP's rules the species that would be appreciated would be

Spectacled Bear
Coati
Bush Dog
Sloth
Patagonian Mara
Piranha
Ocelot

Tamandua
Chilean Flamingo
Rheas
Vicuna / Guanaco / Alpaca
Brazilian Tapir
Humboldt Penguin
Black Caiman

LOL Obviously, Planet Zoo is poor on New World Monkeys, Arboreal New World Mammals and Flying Birds that live especially in the Amazon rainforest

But you have a point that I agree which is that Andes and Patagonia also deserve more representation too, if PZ release another South America Animal Pack I think about 2-3/8 animals could be from those regions. But we have a problem because Frontier already made a South America Scenery, so I wouldn't believe in another DLC with the same theme, Amazon jungle or Rainforest animal pack seems more probable.

I'm from Argentina and though i would like lots of species from here i think the minimun i feel we need to have decent Patagonia rep are the rhea, Mara and Guanaco (and well the andean cóndor but i'm not really expecting to ever see it in the game). The huemul, pudu and maybe some other armadillo species are all welcome but i don't think they are esessential. We could also get some rep for the patagonian coast as well.

Other than that the caraya monkey, coati, giant armadillo and chacoan peccary would also be welcome.

Oh yeah, you mentioned that once. Que tal, che? Nice to see a fellow Argentinean player here. Ha ha, yeah, I agree with those choices as well, the mara and rhea are big ones

I'm actually going go against the crowd an say not so much, since we are excluding primates and flying birds, and keeping it to only the tropical theme. The only pretty necessary animal is a sloth. Coatimundi and Ocelot are popular choices too, but the Sloth definitely outranks them.

if we were including birds, primates or going beyond tropical SA to general SA my answer would be different.

It's funny, I just don't see the sloth as all that important. That just shows our different zoo experiences, though. I don't think I've ever seen a sloth in real life.

Understandable, personal experiences or just preference will definitely cause differences in what a person will consider important. The good news is that Frontier seems to have done a great job with representing many players wishes for what they want. No one will end up getting every animal they want or even that they think they need. But hopefully we all get quite a bit of them; I'm mostly set for what I think I need and am glad my "absolutely must have" list is empty (at least until/if they introduce flying birds ).

Aside from more primates and hopefully flying birds I would love to see coatis, sloth and tamandua in game. Ever since I visited Costa rica, I am a huge fan of these species. Another tapir, An ocelot or margay isn't necessary but I wouldn't mind their inclusion either.
