Does Speeding Matter?

Hey all - quick question: When you're flying near a space station does speeding have any downsides?

I have been fined for hovering over the wrong landing pad by accident, so I was wondering if there are any repercussions from speeding, like fines or loss of rep with the station's owners or factions etc?

I ask because you can get around speeding on the way in by auto docking, but on the way out if you limit yourself to just 100m/s, well it's a boring couple of minutes each time you depart, and as a trader I do this quite often... [blah]

As long as you avoid hitting other ships, speeding means nothing.

Yes. Speeding matters especially if you're playing in Open and there are other CMDR's around.

Especially if those CMDR's are flying deliberately weakened small ships like Eagles - beware of those especially - as that's a sure sign that they are planning to fly right into your speeding ship and get blown up. What happens then is you get blamed for their death and the station and station security will very quickly obliterate YOU :)

Obey the law - don't speed, and laugh out loud when you hear an explosion off your starboard bow as you putter casually in and out of the station - because a troll just blew themselves up for nothing :D

I agree with California, as long as you don't hit any NPCs or players fly as fast as you feel is appropriate. Keeping it in the blues aids in maneuverability but often exceeds the speed limit. Fly by the seat of your pants I say, and if you like me, crash into every landing pad!!

You can take pips AWAY from engines, which will shunt the "blue zone" into a lower speed range. Very useful when landing a large ship like a 'conda or T9 on a high G world.

I have 100% honestly been fined 400 credits for speeding. Just left the slot. Got scanned, got fined. Didn't hit anything. It's only happened once. I was pretty... Confused.

I have never seen any ramming CMDR's before, and I sure as heck am not going to scan every ship to see what kind of condition it is in. I'm going way too fast for that.

I come in as fast as the other traffic allows me. I have actually slid under larger slower ships. If I get tagged, I get tagged.

Mostly thinking about once I leave the station and want to head to my destination - so it sounds like I might get hit with a $400 fine but no rep lost if I don't hit anyone?

You didn't get fined for the act of speeding, in and of itself. There is no fine for just going over 100...

Yes speeding matters else you can get bored for 2mins when you exit.
It is useful to alert noobs in small fast ships and protect the Traders more like yourself.
Some ships can take ages to stop after a boost in so only do this if you know your stopping range (deploy gear just before entry).
You'll even notice this on modded ships that can achieve 600km/h

There was a timely thread on Reddit today with this...

So as stated earlier, Yes - speeding matters :)

Essentially it is the same rules as I understand it, like on the German autobahn, which means has 'no' speed limit, but if you go above a certain limit, you are responsible for anything that happens.
