Does the kill warrant scanner take an insane amount of juice, or what?

I was re-configuring my python and I noticed a major drop in power draw when I removed the kill warrant scanner. (5-10% of the total?) Anybody else notice this? It almost makes the scanner not worth it except for maximizing bounty hunting, not general killing.

Hmm from memory my d rated one with quick scan engineering uses roughly the same power as an A rated shield booster. So not insignificant, but definitely not 5-10%

I think the A rated scanner does use a lot though

I use an A rated scanner where I can, but I use lower ones too when I can't afford the power draw. With quick scan engineering the range isn't nearly as important.

I use C-class KWS (1.6MW and 3000m base range), modded according to ship it's installed on (Vulture and FDL - fast scan, Corvette w\long range beams - LR scanner)

The A-rated Kill Warrant scanner does indeed use an insane amount of juice just to look up a criminal record. No logic to it, as the lower rated scanners are still capable of doing the difficult bit [communicating across the galaxy to find the criminal records] and all the rating does is affect how close you need to be to the target. (kilometres versus tens of thousands of light years...)

Surely it should be just a software upgrade to your scanner and comms systems? But then - of course - it is a game and FDev have chosen the power mechanic and use of a utility slot as their favoured means of balance...

Pity it no longer doubles your bounties. I've removed all mine - as not justifying their ship resources. BUT when FDev release the proposed improvement, I may check them out again.

All of the Utility based scanners take a ton of power. The A class Wake Scanner is just as bad. You just need to upgrade your power supply.

The power cost goes up significantly with each increasing grade. I typically use the 0C version as the range (3 km)/power cost ratio is good for me. I can't imagine ever using a 0A.

KWS do take a fair bit of power. Not the worst scanner though, I think that's the cargo scanner.
Not. Problem though as I have removed mine after 3.0 dropped, permanently.

I could see that. If it has to search police records from every system in the galaxy using a signal that is many many times faster than light. Actually I have no idea how that thing works. Might need to check the lore I'm interested now.
